Water Cooling the Incredible Hulk

for those who have seen my rig (see sig), most of you will know that i'm planning to water cool in june once i start working again

this post is mainly for opinions on the loop i have set out for my rig, and for the more experienced water coolers to point out where i could improve.

so without further adieu, here's what i have planned:

rig specs:

updated wc hardware:

Pump: D5/MCP655 with EK-D5 X-TOP ver.2

Reservoir: Bitspower Z-Multi 150

Rads: 1 x 120.2 (Black Ice Xtreme II X-Flow) (with 2 x Scythe GT 1850rpm in exhaust) + 1 x 200.1 (Phobya Xtreme 200mm)

CPU Block: XSPC Raystorm (AMD)

GPU Block: EK-FC570/580 GTX+ (EN plexi one) and the complimentary backplate

Fittings: Bitspower Black Matte (see diagram for angles), Koolance VL4N quick disconnects

Tubing: Feser UV Acid Green (1/2" ID, 3/4" OD)

Coolant: Feser One F1 Acid Green

Loop setup:



i was planning to go res > pump > 200mm rad > gpu > etc. and have a quick disconnect on the long hose going from 200mm rad to gpu block (i'll try to put it as close to the rad as possible to hide it from the window on my side panel

going to be going with UV cathodes or LEDs (havent decided yet), and the fans for the rads will be: 2 x scythe gentle typhoons 1850rpm, 1 x 200mm Bitfenix

what do you guys think? i hope i havent planned anything fatally incorrect and made a fool of myself...

Dont think the phenom is a hot chip, and the 570 isnt too hot either but unless your going with thick rads your temps wont be brilliant unless you use quick fans
 
what is the biggest rad you can fit into a 650d?

From what I am thinking I do not think you will be much cooler than what you would be if you just on air. If you are looking at doing some over clocking then you will want to get some bigger thicker rads.
 
i had a separate post about the rads earlier because i was not sure about cooling capacity...

in the post, i said i wouldnt overclock, but now that i think about it, i want to try overclocking my cpu a bit more. that would mean i wouldnt be cooling my gpu...

do you guys think it's worth it?
 
has anybody gotten their hands on a Black Ice Xtreme II rad? looking at the 240 rad cause it's got better dimensions, but i'm not sure about the FPI. even a google search hasn't yielded anything...just wondering if noctuas would be good enough for this rad...

as for the 200mm rad, the only one im aware of is the phobya, there is enough room in the 650D to have a thicker rad, anyone know of one?

i would also go for a pump/res combo will give you more room and a tidier appearance.

my mobo doesnt have a heatsink at the top, so my limit would be the ram slots. i took apart my rig the other day and made more accurate measurements for the rads...decided to go with the black ice xtreme ii x-flow cause the fitting layout would make it look a lot tidier in my build. this is what i have in mind now:

i decided to go with a cylinder reservoir because i personally want to keep the front of my case as clean as possible, and having a bay reservoir means i would have two extra long tubes in my loop to help the reservoir pull out for filling. btw, very clean loop you've got there

personally mate get a bay res i think it will look tidier as u cant really hide away the pump and res in the 650, if your worried about the litres per hour, can always get an alphacool res and 2 of their small ceramic pump, AND you dont need to worry about long tubing as the res stays put and the fillport screws out, watch ttls latest aquatuning vid youll see what i mean
 
If you're going to overclock both your GPU and CPU then it's totally worth it to watercool. But if you'll run a slightly OC'ed CPU and a stock GPU, I'd tell you to stick with air cooling. It's a lot cheaper, less hassle, and safer. If you really just don't want a huge air cooler in your rig because it doesn't look goot or whatever, stick with your H80 or get an H100. I know it's "fake" watercooling but I ran an i7-2600K at 4.8GHz, 1.38v on it and never saw it go above 35 idle 65 load. I think the highest it ever went was high 80s when I first got that rig and was benching at 5.65Ghz and 1.54v.

I saw on your signature that you've got a EVGA 570 Classified. 1st, if you aren't gonna OC your GPU I don't know why on earth you got a classified version. 2nd, EVGA blocks are VERY expensive so if you're gonna watercool it, it's gonna cost you a lot of money. 3rd, I would personally get a thicker 200mm rad and do a push/pull config on it so you have a decent overhead and you get more air going into the case for positive pressure.

Apart from that, the loop diagram looks pretty good. It's as clean a build as you could do with that setup. Having the long hose from the GPU to the 200mm rad with quick disconnects is a really good idea. I absolutely love Koolance's quick disconnect system, I think they're genius. I would actually get one between the pump and the reservoir as well if you have enough space.

So yeah in synthesis: if you've gonna spend such a huge mount of money on watercooling, you better OC both your CPU and especially your classified edition GPU. Otherwise you're better off sticking with air cooling and using the money you save on another 570.

i've measured everything in my case and i believe i can make it work. i've removed both HDD cages so the pump and reservoir will have sufficient room

i would go for the alphacool option, but i'm not a big fan of anything copper, which alphacool seems to put into all of their products.

yes, i've decided to do some OCing for both my cpu and gpu (mainly cpu cause i dont game consistently). I've decided to go with what i have laid out cause i couldn't find a thicker 200mm rad. if these two rads dont seem to be doing the job well enough, i might opt for an external rad or extensive modding with the help of my roommate

i was initally hoping to avoid modding though.

My main reason for water cooling is for aesthetics. i think it looks awesome, and the H80 is kind of boring imho...money isnt a problem at the moment with my birthday coming up and my upcoming work term

terodius, our friend here has the same problem as me in regards to a thicker 200mm rad than the phobya, ive had an, albeit quick, browse on google and couldnt find one, do you know of any?
 
There aren't any thicker 200mm ones than the Phobya. It's the only one that will fit (stock) in front of a 650D/600T.

yes, i am aware of this after doing a whole lot of research for my loop. i'll just have to make do with what i got and see how it turns out
