Wait, what. How much? :\

My CPU's in sore need of an upgrade but Intel make it so hard to jump ship x.x
Hopefully the i3's will be decent (meh, 10%), then I'll be picking up on of those with a mid-range board, and hopefully a AMD 88xx GPU :)

oh well those plans are on a hold for a long time then :D amd won't release new cards before 2014 q1, by then you should be able to afford at least an i5 and a 8950.

I'm not too good at the whole saving thing.
I'll probably get a new desk, new speakers, new keyboard and mid range CPU/GPU if they take that long :P

AMD 8xxx series is due out in Q4 this year. That's the latest from AMD anyway.

They could just turn the tables....

Though we all scoff and laugh now things are slowly turning in their direction.

Windows 8 uses the 8 cored AMD chips in a much better way than Windows 7. In fact, so well does it use them that the 8 core PD is neck and neck with the 3570k in pretty much all games.

However, where AMD will have the last laugh is console porting/conversion. It won't be long before they hold complete domination in the console market and all of those games will then be converted to PCs.

Given how lazy coders are it will most likely pan out that games are far better optimised for the way AMD's cpus work. And that, in gaming at least, could seriously turn the tables for AMD.

I remember reading about Bulldozer once in a long column in the back of one of my magazines I read on the toilet, and the author was quick to point out how much we all (and mostly Intel) laughed at AMD for going X64 prematurely.

However that has all changed now. They (AMD) just need to hope that the core use for BD and SR (Steam Roller) are utilised properly and then it will be a serious advantage for them.

you better get good at that, i much rather have one expensive part than 10 cheap ones. :D

^^^This, so much ^^^this.

Not that I would force anyone to abide by that philosophy, but if they choose to go for cheaper
stuff now instead of saving up for later, they can't legitimately complain.*

*Disclaimer: Does not include people who actually can't save up due to bills/living
expenses etc, I'm only talking about choosing not to save and wait out of pure
impatience, not due to the bare necessities of life.

You really do have to live for the moment though. Saving is all well and good, but there's nothing like having it now.

well, do you want mediocre stuff now or amazing stuff in a few months?
Living for the moment = gonna be broke and a drug addict in a couple years.
