Yep its called Vlite and it works pretty well

Yeah I've got my Vista Vlite'd down to just over 1gb...but if you tick all the options you can actually fit Vista on a standard CD

It does seem a bit strange considering it's largely just a bundle of all the hotfixes and security patches since the release of Vista. I'd be a little more understanding if it had new features.

However, if they just rolled it out and it screwed up everyone's machines then I think we'd probably all be cursing them for not testing first

more than likely, Dont forget all the small patchs arnt distributed this way. Suppose they need to test that side of things. Anyone would be crazy not to beta test something.

It's called internal testing... Service Packs are nothing special, some basic testing is all that should be needed.

And I never saw a beta test for any XP service packs.

This isn`t anything born out of any sense for anything. There are 1000s of champion users world-wide to bare the brunt of anything b4 release.

And it`s a cumilation of stuff already released. Do they all work together ? I`d figure they`d know that by now.

However, there can be a tweak or 3 thrown in there. And maybe a KB or so that isn`t singularly downloadable.
