Hi,

A mate of mine might sell me his Vertex 2 60GB ssd for £60 its only 2 months old and comes with everything.

Basic question is it worth it i will only be using it for windows and some apps.

Worth it compared to what?

SSD compared to a normal HDD yes, that's if you think 60GB is enough space for your windows install, I personally would go for a 120GB SSD.

Also you need to think about SATA 3 SSD's are out now, If you are getting a SSD for speed well it would make more sense to get a good SATA 3 SSD.

We need a bit more info on why and what you need/want a SSD for?

its only for windows and chrome and the antivirus and a few small apps games and other stuff will be on hard drives. i was asking if the performance of that drive would be worth £60 and if its only for a windows installation surly you can only boot windows so fast even if you had a 1GB/s SSD.

Yes it is worth it I currently have a 60GB SSD I upgraded from a WD Black 1tb and I noticed a huge difference, best upgrade I have done in a long time.

But it is constantly full. A install of windows 7 and fully updated is about 30 to 40GB

Most my programs I install to a second HDD but smaller apps I put onto my SSD and it preforms well.

You will only get windows 7 and a few programs on it. Game installs are about 8GB each some 15GB, But you could set it up like I have Main C drive is SSD thn a 1TB HDD for all my games and large programs like VM ware, office, Games and CS4... so on.

I'd say yes, if £60 is all you want to spend.

Better half uses that exact drive for a boot drive and most apps (doesn't have many) and a couple of games and uses a HDD for everything else and it works great.

Brought it her back in Feb for 90 quid and can't say I regret it although if I was spending the same money on a 60GB drive now I'd go for a sata 3 drive.

If you have a mobo with sata 3 ports though and another £30 to add to that £60 then you'd be better with the new OCZ SSD's as there twice as fast as the vertex 2's.

Depends on how you view it, if you feel you'll be fine with its speed + capacity and it meets your needs then why not, otherwise keep your money and save up.

If your not upgrading to a SATA 3 anytime soon I would definately go for it, its one of the best upgrades for your money around at the minute!

imo no SSD is STILL not worth it at the moment, complete rip off the lot off it.

'drip feedin' technoilogy to maximise profit, how original.

I don't care what anyone says. Unless you have money to burn a SSD is daylight robbery. The components in these things are cheap as chips, seriously they are.

Don't get me wrong I would like one for a clean install of 7 but I really had to think.."is it really worth spending £90 on a 60gb hard drive"

no, no it isn't.
