Vapo Ls Mounting on a dothan

hi all lurked here for ages

just wondered if anyone here had ever fitted a vapo ls onto a dothan ct49 adaptor with out getting issues with condensation crushed core ect,

I want to smash my own WR

Could probably do it one of 2 ways, either use a custom hold down using 4 threaded bars hooked over the standard P4 retention mount, running up to a backplate hooked over the evap.

Other way would be to remove the P4 rentention jobby, and use the 4 mobo holes. Those that are covered by the CT just bridge the gap, use a notched bar or "C" shaped metal strip.

Probably doesnt make sense tbh lol! You'll probably need extra insulation due to the CT-479 to avoid condensation too :)

The most important thing is to use a good shim, to protect the die - or you'll more than likely end up with a crushed core :(

Thinking outside the box, here's my idea:

Buy yourself and AOpen Skt 479 motherboard based on the latest 975 chipset- cost £200 but hey - thats cheaper than a new chip and will provide optimum overclocking without the need for mods, plus you could probs sell your other stuff on a well known auction site to help contribute to the cost.

That's not a bad idea but then if the GFX is AGP then it's gonna cost more than £200 and I doubt the money will return to make it worthwhile.

I've never played with Dothan so cudn't help but I think Stocky and Highland3r have so they know.

Boardy

That board wont support Dothan either ;)

Grab an old P4 IHS, they work a charm on the dothans, just use some decent adhesive to stick it on. Mouting a mach evap is quite easy, Gray hacked some standard P4 sink brackets with an angle grinder which give perfect contact when an IHS is used. They're a PITA to get on, but the contacts spot on. That's not much use for a vapo mount though, custom hold down maybe, unless you can bridge the mobo holes covered by the CT
