:wavey: I have upgraded my OS to WIN XP PRO, I have a MS 6340 LE motherboard 1 Gz AMD Athlon Processor and 512 RAM . The problem I am having is that the USB ports are not getting picked up. I have checked the Device manager and all is ok. I have tried several devices and formatted the HDD again , with no help. I have also tried Win XP Pro SP2. Can someone pleaz help, B 4 i purchase another Motherboard. The Micro Star website do not have a driver that helps. The USB devices work with Win 200 Pro on, but I need WIN XP - PRO for various tasks., Programs. The operating system is stable running various tasks but just freezes when a USB device is attached. I noticed that when I have a USB pen drive attached on Boot-up the Bios recognises it and I am able to work with it transfering files but if I take the device out and out it back in the PC freezes( obviously taking care to stop the Device by right clicking on the device manager on the bottom right of the screen.

USB Problems

If the drivers is not the problem. Try going into your Bios setup and make sure they are activated there, I had this problem once. Simply enable your USB ports from there and all should be well.

If I understand him correctly, he said the USB devices work in windows 2000 but they won't work in Windows XP.

Therefore, I don't think buying a new motherboard will solve your problem. Your motherboard already works correctly, if I understand you correctly, thus, there's nothing wrong with it.

I don't know what the problem is but it sounds software related. Something somewhere inside of Windows XP does not want your USB devices to work correctly.

Just out of curiousity, do you get these freezes when plugging your flash drive directly into the back of the computer? Some pin-outs on the MSI motherboards are incorrect and if you have a front panel that connects to any JUSB1/2 connectors, this would cause your computer to freeze when trying to access the drive. However, you shouldn't get this problem when plugging a pen drive directly into the back of the computer (into a USB port that doesn't need any special connections to work -- it's already connected out of the box).
