Upscaling DVD £28

Not sure how that works but looks interesting.

They just upscale the image of the video and bumps it through HDMI. My dad has a Sony DVD recorder one that upscales and comparing my crappy picture to his it's nice, he's watching normal TV in around 720p :). Looks really nice, don't know whether this just upscales the DVD or input.

Thing is.. how do you get a higher resolution if the data isn't there to start with? That's why I question this gadget.

I think it's just a fancy filter.

Ofcourse it's a filter they create extra lines of pixels by copying parts of surrounding pixels, effectively "guessing" at what the image should look like at a higher resolution.

I have had a Toshiba Upscaling DVD player for some time now with my 1080p TV. I have to say, they're well worth it as DVDs look so much clearer and sharper in high def upscaled than I've seen with any other kit, including my HTPC.

Recently got the Angels and Demons DVD and the quality when upscaled to 1080p was amazingly good for a DVD. Best I've ever seen.
