Upgrading the Laptop, Nvidia or stick to AMD 675M VS 7970M

Where can you buy mobile GPUs from, how much are they?

Just out of interest, I'm sure you've already thought about these, but is the power draw, heat and most importantly the size of the new GPU compatible with your current laptop?

Yes, the new AMD7000radeon, and Nivida600 series are completely compatible with the m17x R3. I have to thank you for being one of the few people who actually are trying to help me resolve my question rather then being one of the people who just give me grief for having a gaming laptop.

Yes master!!

Also I did give you a clear answer "...wait till their is an ivy alienware and purchase that with a 680m already in it." Reading seems to be a problem on your part. And trying to give you a clear answer to a question with no logic behind it is not easy.

Here is another clear answer GET THE 7970m.

Thank you! Was that so difficult. Also why would I spend 2k for a new laptop when the Cpu really does not effect a games FPS that much? I am quite addiqute with my Sandy CPU.

Because a new "m" gpu will cost about $1000 with again, half the performance of the desktop version. I think it is about the stupidest thing someone could do. I understand wanting a high end mobile gaming rig, I had an ASUS g71 back a few years ago, most powerful laptop on the market and cost me $1800. This was back in the GeForce 2xx days. I was looking into getting a 5870m when they were released and looked at the price of $1200 for ONE was insane. You may be able to find cheaper but at still high coin. WASTE OF MONEY! The more logical thing to do would be to wait until you have just a few hundred more and just get an all new laptop with the latest again. Not worth getting a GPU if it is going to cost you what 80% of your laptop is CURRENTLY worth and 70% of when it was new.

If it is only going to cost you $300 or maybe $400 more for a new laptop why the hell would you get a mobile GPU?!

The desktop version DOES NOT MATTER, and also no, my alienware with the 6990m cost me about 2.4k and a new one would cost that much, why would I not just pay 800 for a graphics card upgrade? Who knows, the new 680 may be very close at stock to an old 580, with a little OCing it could be a 580. I mean you may not like it, but I like my gaming laptops and mobile devices, partially because of my situation with Internet, but that is a private matter. Ether way, drop all concepts of the DESKTOP and please focus on the mobile variant.

Oh, where do you get your prices? Eurocom told me it is only 450, no where near your estimate lol

I think it is a waste of money all together. Mobile GPUs are almost double the price of the desktop version with half the performance.

The only reason to go mobile is the significantly reduced power draw over the desktop equivilant - though that said mobile branding is misleading - I believe the 6990M is actually two 6870s (and 6870Ms at that), not two 6970s, for example.

Hold out for the GTX680m, see what it benches like, then choose!
Agree with this suggestion. The 7970M is a real beast, but GTX680M or GTX690M (if they actually materialize) should be much better. Until then, my GTX580M SLI setup is plenty potent.
