My friend has an old M14x which he is to be replacing with a desktop, and I decided I would take it into possession because why not. Anyway, It has some old SB 2 core and a GTX 555m, pretty measly either way. I was wondering if there was any way I could get my hands on an Ivy bridge M14x motherboard, or maybe just throw together a load of parts and put them into the thing.
I know the GPU is integrated into the motherboard, so there is no way to upgrade that without getting a new board, and also the CPU is probably soldered too, so I might as well toss out the old motherboard.
Either way it would seem most logical to put another AW mobo in it, but TBH they are pretty rubbish. The problem with not putting an AW mobo in it is that none of the lights are likely to work without a lot of tweaking and screwing around.
But then again come to think of it, I would probably take a year or so to put a new board in it.
So, if anyone has any ideas as to where I could get supplies for this, any help would be much appreciated.
If you are just going to tell me it is not worth doing, just keep it to yourself. I know it is not worth doing by any practical sense, but I might as well give it a shot since it is a damn good looking chassis, and I want something to toy around with.
