Right guys im going to be upgrading my memory soon and would like to know wat you all think are the best Gig sticks out atm, and also what are the best hard drives around..?

I heard that the samsung spinpoint SATA II NCQ is good..?

yea the samsung p120's are exceptionally quiet and perform really well. but the best performiers are the hitatchi 500gb seagate 400gb maxtor 300gb ect. dunno about teh 1 gig sticks tho.

Yup, Animal, ya heard right...Samsung Spinpoints rock... if you can, try and get the 250GB version...the platter size is 125GB which makes for pretty sharp access. I bought the 200GB one with only 100GB platters... another victory for research and attention to detail....i`m a dumbass

Anyone with NF4U/SLI boards (IMO) really should be going for SATAII disks with NCQ... raptors are now obsolete, their brute spindle speed alone aint enough any more.

you said it kenny but people dont belive me when i say it. I hear people saying that 10000rpm owns all. hell i even saw people saying that rpators beat scsi, i set them straigt

edited to make sense.

U saying Raptors own all, or some ppl have their minds stuck at that conclusion?

I guess until recently, Raptors/ 10K spindles DID own all. I think people will catch on eventually...the same way as ppl realised that memory dividers on an A64 dont hurt.

I guess its possible for raptors to beat some "low-end" SCSI RAIDs but I`ve never had SCSI, so I cant say for sure. Never had Raptors either...I`m all theory!! The Ultra-320 SCSI cards/drives will still beat SATAII, but without much style or grace.

i've edited my post to make snese kenny, and i read on the maxtor about some new enterprise serial attatched scsi drives or sometihng, i think its meant to be a combination of sata IO (sata 2) and scsi into a mean lean hard disk accessing machine.

Samsung SATA 2 NCQ 250GB / Maxtor DM10 16mb Cache SATA 2 NCQ / Hitatchi SATA2 NCQ

Crucial Ballistix PC4000 / OCZ EL PC4000 / OCZ EL PC3200 / Patriot PC3200 (2-3-2) / Crucial PC3200 (standard stuff... may have ballistix (micron) chips)

Yep there the ones ive been looking at but im just not sure which to get, seeing as the Maxtor has a 16mb buff where as the others are 8mb...

16mb buffer doesnt make a huge difference, out of the 3 i'd definatly have the samsung, altho i do have 2 300gb dm10's (well only 1 atm havnt formatted hte otherone yet, gonna make it into a raid 1 array.
