Upgrade ram

AMD

Hi all,

Now i wonna upgrade my computers memory,

My comp currently has 2 sticks of 256Mb Pc3200.

Well what i wanted to do is remove one stick of 256Mb and replace it with a stick of 1Gb so is it possible to have a stick of 1Gb and a stick of 256Mb running together?

The 1Gb stick will be the same speed as the 256Mb stick (Pc3200)

My computers specs are in siggy.

Thanks

Thats great,

No i dont plan on doing any overclocking:D ,This pc in siggy is a family computer.

I just wanted to upgrade ram so its more stable when multitasking & stuff.

I do play the odd few games like Enemy terretory but nothing major.

ya should work no problems but could be better to buy 2 512s and have 1 gig of ram same ram brand and type for sure will work together.

Yeah but i would rather just buy 1Gb stick and add it alongside my 256.

I only have 2 slots on my motherboard for memory and my maximum sopported ram is 2Gb.

So realy i want as much ram as i can get in there.

So basicly is this what i would get......

1024 + 256 = 1280

Then i would have to take away 64 because intergrated graphics......

1280 - 64 = 1216Mb

So i would have a total of 1216Mb?

Why not get rid of all your ram sticks and either get 2x512MB or 2x1GB? Wait you have a Sempron never mind; having a 1GB and 256MB stick should be fine. IF you board has four dimm slot why not use the 2x256MB and 1GB sticks?

Well the speed of the older stick will just pull down the other newer ram... So I suggest stickin with only the 3200 like you are. Maybe just keep the 1gig w/o the 256mb. It will hardly make a difference... and if you get ram with good timings... I suggest leaving the 256 out, because it will just bring down the other ram.

But if you're just gonna buy some generic value RAM then I would stick it all in there at the same time if you have enough slots to run it all. If you're going to invest in some quality RAM with tight timings and some higher overclockability then DEFINATELY take out the 256 that you have in there, it'll tie ya down.

Yup, totally agree

I think werty is right and you should better get rid of your 256MB stick of yours and just buy 2x512MB (or 2x1GB if you have the money) instead...;)

That would definately be the best option, but I suppose it all hinges on what kind of cash situation the guy is in :)
