Upgrade Processor?

I use stuff like SDK hammer editor which is a hog I think and I use photoshop and play crysis, and the intel quad core is only 3 cores technically if im correct :)

Also I use autocad :)

Is it worth it for me?

Cheers

:D

Intel Quad-Core is most certainly 4 cores afaik! Those extra cores will only help you if the program is multi-threaded [i.e. can take advantage of multiple cores]. If you want a performance boost for free, you could try overclocking your E6750, as it's a pretty good OCer as far as Conroe goes, might be the best thing before you spend any money.

As a side note, we seem to have loads of people on here from Manchester recently! Haven't seen ya around before so welcome to OC3D mate :)

Cheers Dude,

A thing that is puzzling me is I have just stock cooler would this matter? would it be risky with it? Also if a OC fails can it be fixed?

Thank You

"As far as I know"

Thanks! :)

And BTW, overclocking is your best option.. Just get a decent heatsink and fan and overclock a little, it will improve performance. No need for Quad Cores unless your futureproofing or using very demanding programs. Some people just use them for benchmarking.

Have a look in your bios and see if your multi is set at 6, if it is change it to 8 as thats what yours is meant to run at.

Why is it like that? I just got it and fitted it, it was at stock no changes where made.

P.S Im new to overcloking and messing with stuff in the BIOS apart from boot order so n00b steps is advised :)

In reply to the OP, i found nothing moving form a clocked dual to equally clocked quad. It may be a tad different if your using vista though.

Check out this page for bois tweeks to turn off the power saving settings. And indeed the rest of the guide for OCing instructions.

Its a attempt to save power. Under load the CPU will clock itself back up to full speed, idle it will revert to the x6 multi.

I went from a Q6600 to a E8500 and gaming wise it made no difference but as for multitasking the quad wins out in my view, also depends on what your using it for(gaming, net, photoshop, benching etc).

Im impatient so i like having lots of things going on at once hence why ive gone back to a quadcore in the shape of a QX9650 :worship:

I think you have that mixed up with the fact that the first core is named Core 0 and so on..

Either that or im missing something. :p

Overclocking as said before is the best option.

And no, Intel's Quads are not technically 3 cores, they consist of two dual cores put into one chip.

This is why you have cache x 2.
