upgrade motherboard and cpu HELP

It makes no difference in performance choosing between a 2600k, 3770k or 3820. They are identical. IB clocks slightly lower but has better performance clock for clock. On water cooling you'll be getting 4.7-4.9 ghz if you do it right on IB.

IB has other advantages that some people may make use of:

If you want to fill all 4 ram slots then it has a more stable memory controller.

If you will be running 2 pcie3 gpus then pcie3 on IB is slightly better.

IB is more energy efficient.

If you don't care about these then you might as well get 1155 Sandy.

No point getting a 2700k if you are overclocking. Save the cash and get the 2600k.

Truth is you don't need to upgrade for gaming - I would wait for Haswell.

If you do want to upgrade for gaming just for the heck of it then get a 2500k/3570k.

If you will be doing anything more cpu intensive with images for example then get a 2600k/3770k.

If you just want to spend your money then get a second 7950. That will be the best option for improving your gaming experience.

i use cad and bit of photo shop one gpu is enough i just wanna know if sandy bridge will be alot cooler if say at similar performance levels the temps are that much higher ill go ivy bridge

i just dont want to get it and try OCing and get like 4.5Ghz but 90C tempts.

Either will be fine at 4.5ghz. As I say - IB will clock slightly lower because of temps (this is only an issue above ~4.6ghz) but the performance is better for the same ghz.

I think in your case the decision is between better energy efficiency (3770k) or cheaper purchase price (2600k)

As his CPU is still more than capable it shouldn't matter that much, should it?

That depends on what he is going to use the PC for. He never said it was for gaming. And if he want's to upgrade now, I don't see the point in waiting at least one more year for the Haswell.

So its between 2600k or 3770k on a z77 sabre tooth board

which one do you guys think it better?

2600k

+cooler when OC

+higher OC

3770k

+some extra features

+ better clock for clock

- gets really hot when OC

2600k is only £10 cheaper so prices isnt the main driving force (this is whats making it harder lol )

Literally makes no difference mate. But you are getting a z77 so you might as well go for the 3770k.

Although personally I wouldn't choose the sabertooth - is this for looks?

on second thoughts guys ive fixed the issue that was going to make me change MB and cpu going to keep my amd cpu now till new cpus get released.

my excuse for upgrade gone hopefully my new 7950 will give me the performance increase i need.

THANKS A LOT for the help.
