Upgrade disaster

Well everything seems to be ok, not a 100% smooth ride since when i try to install windows from boot from disc it freezes. So i installed it without deleting any partitions. Also i keep getting DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error but my biggest concern is my temps. As im writing this my temps are 33-30-34-29 and under load were talking over 70 odd. I know i7`s are a fairly hot chip but with my B3 revision q6600 i could keep temps below 60c with 1.46v. Annoying! Does anyone elses I7 950 temps range from about 6c from core to core? On the up side of things ive installed some games and my system really kicks ass on that front now, looks great

1. reinsert all power cables, including the videocard's (I've seen people manage to plug in the CPU 8pin power an PCIe 8pin power connector...)

2. if still no boot, then try with ONLY one stick of ram in the dimm that is furthest from the cpu socket

2+. if still no boot, try other dimms and different sticks

3. if still no boot, you should really reseat the cpu

4. if still no boot, take the whole thing out, including the motherboard and check the bracket on the CPU cooler retention mechanism (if any) so that it doesn't short anything on the motherboard (I had this twice in my life, but always managed to recognise the problem before powering it up)

5. if still no boot, try another PSU

6. if still no boot, you need to RMA the motherboard

If I cleared my cmos and booted the PC I could get into bios. However, even just saving and exiting my PC would offer no display on reboot. Why? because my motherboard was treating my ram as a bad overclock (which in essence it was) and therefore refusing to post. So, what I had to do was the following.

Iv been overclocking my RAM and it been a real pain trying to get it stable without any Bsod's, but even before that when i was Oc'ing my cpu which is all cool and stable at load, whenever i change the settings in the bios and F10 or save and exit the system restarts my pc but does not boot in to windows, so what i do is take the power plug out leave it for a couple of mins plug power back in and turn on and its fine, you said your was a bad OC but mine is all stable and still does it, i dnt feel compfy turn it on/off that way tho, i will investigate it tommorrow and see if your way works.

My i7 930 OCed to 3.52 (1.136V w/Turbo and w/HT) has 47-44-53-41 so it can be worse concerning core-to-core variation. The actual temperatures are going to be higher or lower considering the ambient room temperature.

If you're on a stock intel cooler then the temps are quite ok. These new i7 Quads run quite a lot hotter then the old Core2 Quads. They have a higher TDP around 130W.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

This usually points to a RAM problem. Try to tun the RAM @1066-1333 and see if it happens. It is possible that the problem is related to the bent pins you had before and the controller in the CPU might have been compromised, or the actual RAM, or maybe your fix was not adequate and there are still some contact issues inside the socket.

You should run MEMTEST86+ from a bootable CD.

Personally I think you have either stuffed the motherboard or stuffed the CPU.

You said it yourself that you bent pins on the board and thus I don't find it very surprising that you're having issues now.

The only time I ever had a CPU with bent pins was a refurb Athlon XP I bought from a skank company. I straightened them out but it did the exact kind of things yours is now doing. Random BSODs, shutdowns, driver errors ETC. I put it in a different motherboard and it was exactly the same.

I would start RMAing stuff sooner rather than later, starting with the board.
