it is a OCZ Vertex Plus R2 and its not even 6months old, had to replace an old second hand SSD that died completely

no, but when my old SSD died i lost Win7 (had lost the key) so i got Win8 and the new SSD and started having the problems 2-3 months later. not sure if its a win8 thing

Did you ever tinker with anything important related to boot up and etc? It may be user error? Check online for specific help on the microsoft forums to check for a solution... Adding a SSD won't change anything you've changed in the os.

i changed the boot order in bios when it was breaking but that was about it, like i say i am limited in my skills so i dont try to overclock or anything like that

Overclocking even stock speeds will get you better results the what you board will automatically provide... A quick learning session could fix that.

But anyway i would sell win 8 and just get win oem/retail from ebay. It can go for super cheap on their.

Sell it for more? Make a nice small profit. But anyway i would just back up all the programs you need and games etc. and then install new ssd with a completely new install and start from scratch. First thing is get an antivirus program on your pc then right after get an internet connection update windows/antivirus. Then go to the ssd owners website and update firmware. Then continue on with everything else.

i did do that last time it happened, but my pc died again this morning n ive only just finished putting everything back onto it

so does every1 think its SSD then? pc has been on all day with no issues

We can't really tel because of the little information we know about your computer. Try to look around online to see if you can find a solution. Other than that get a new ssd to see if it was the problem.

What happens when it crashes? BSOD?

I had some weird issues with a q6600 based system that just required me to go into the bios and make sure the ram timings and voltage were setup correctly.

That q6600 isn't a bad little chip, do you have any idea what stepping it is? (grab cpuz and find out :))

If it's a decent stepping we could probably chuck that straight up to 3~4ghz without top much tweaking.

As daft as it sounds, the win8 issue could be one of compatibility and stuff, when I moved my q6600 system over to vista it didn't want to know for about a year until bios and drivers were up to nick, then it was fine. Same thing with win7.

Might be worth trying to update the bios, make sure the SSD is flashed to the latest firmware as well.

Are you running the SSD in IDE or AHCI mode ? (do you know how to change this?)

Just a couple more ideas to chuck your way mate.

In short layman terms... Drivers and compatibility issues are present with windows 8 and will take some more time to get it all sorted out. Do you know what drivers are? If not then we may have found your first problem.

Go into the bios(don't change anything) and check to see if your ssd is in AHCI mode. IF it is not then report back to here..
