Unsure what to do

Hi Peeps,

I was planning on building something similar to the mid-range PC in custom PC mag but came into a bit of extra unexpected money and now i don't know whether to build myself or get something like this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-093-OP I must admit i have not been keeping up with components for a whilst now and i'm in the process of checking out each part of that computer.

Was wondering if i'm being totally honest that i could do a better job than the guys building them everyday. Also does anything in that PC spec stand out as being a weak link? First thoughts are i should at least upgrade the SSD to something with more space.

Also looking for a nice monitor to go with the system, anything between £200 - £500.

Any thoughts, ideas or advice greatly appreciated...

I'm sure the PC P&C PSU is great but I don't remember if it has a "hybrid" fan. If it doesn't, go with one which has (XFX, Seasonic, Corsair etc.).

The ssd's capacity is pure misery too.

But, do you really need such a beast in the first place? What would you use it for?

Mainly gaming which i know it may be a bit overkill for but i love FPS and Flight Sims, i also like playing around with After Effects and do a little video editing which the grunt will come in handy for. Other than that i might not have the chance again to spend this much on a PC so would like something "Nice and Powerful" Whilst i have the chance.

Ill try and look into the "Hybrid" Fan thing.

Gaming huh?

Do yourself a favour and go for a decent board with a 3570k, imho. Even the coming 6c/12t LGA2011 Ivy won't give you much higher fps than a 4.6GHz 3570k/3770k. It's rendering videos and 3d that benifits a lot from those 2 extra cores. Games don't really care.

I would look at buying the components yourself than paying for it to be built, save yourself a good few pence.

My advise when building, dont spend money for the sake of spending. Tailor it to what you want it for. Buy for the future, buy the best(ish) today, but dont buy a expensive mobo for features your never going to use. Plus building it your self is always good fun


Monitor wise, I hear a lot of good things about the dell IPS screens. Buy three and your gaming experience will be tranformed. I would happily have 3x19s over 2x 27s but maybe I just like multimonitors to much.

+1 for the Dell IPS screen. My 30" is by far the best pc investment ever. The richness in colours is crazy. Well worth the money.
