Unlimited Budget, Maximum Performance

Hi guys,

I just wanted some advice. Let's say for argument's sake that I have an unlimited budget (or let's say around £3k-£4k max) to build a behemoth pc. Obviously I need to freezer the fooker to buggery to max it out, but what components would you recommend? I've heard that an x2 is far better overall than an fx, how does an x2 perform under extreme oc-ing? Most importantly, how much faster can you get the processor to run? Also is it possible to freeze both the processor + vga, or should i use water instead for vga?

I want to use the pc for gaming as well as all the usual stuff (surely gaming is pretty much the maximum use of pc hardware for most people), but obviously want to be able to run aax16 (sli) and ridiculous resolutions and framerates etc.

Also, on a personal note, how much better do you guys reckon an oc-ed computer is to a high-end non-oc'ed one? Is it really worth all the cost + effort for a gaming user? can you get it to kick serious serious ass, or is it more of a, say 10% better kind of thing?

Cheers in advance for any help with all this, and before suggesting the search tool/googling, I'm really after people's particular opinions about a set up for my specific rig needs, so it'd be really cool for you guys to just hit me with your opinions :-)

Cheers

Lorenzo

Phil here does dual headed mach unit big waiting time but the best of the best. That will do eth cpu and eth gpu but maybe if u aint done phae before just a cpu maybe best with water cooling on the gpu

Phase units give a big performance jump over air, but that said you need to know hwo to install them. The x2 are doing about 2.8 to 3.2 on phase but then again it depends on yr silicon.

Yes overcloking ti worth doing providing you will sue it potential a high end over clocked computer will obviously be better than any high end computer as and overclocked one will be better

Id advise you get on the blower to phil here on friday or the week after to ask him about set up but im sure some els e on the forum could spec u one

Yeah I'd stay stick to water on the graphics. The FXs will probably perform better in games as they're all single threaded. Also it will clock much better under phase. Then again if you're being sensible the x2s are cheaper so you have more money to spend elsewhere and they're alot more futureproof. If you really do have a large budget I'd go for quad SLi just for the fun of it. The 512 7800GTXs which are soon to be released are the cards to get for the same reason as the fx. However again for futureproofing crossfire X1800s will do better in future games due to their better SM3 implementation. I'd love to see 4 512 7800GTXs but unfortunately that would put you on the Intel side of things. Enjoy building this beast - I hope you join the EPUK neching team. :D
