Uni Project

Oh god yeah, deffo getting a smaller case, maybe put a better system in the Colossus.

It is all about time management at Uni I suppose, this is only the 3rd week so let's see what happens. I definitely want to get some BF3 time in
smile.gif

What course do you do?

Ya, I understand completely. 50 hrs a week....amazing. Gaming days are never over, just cut down to a minimal and require some personal control. I'm in university too, but I only get approx. 4 - 5 hrs gaming max. Even so, I'd rather spend time watching movies with family in the TV room.

£200 less makes a big difference in monthly rent doesn't it?

Your PC will still be a powerhouse for many yrs.
smile.gif

I didn't game for a whole year (1st year of Uni) - My PC being absolute sh** put me off further. Second year I did a couple of hours a week and now I game 5 - 10 hours over the weekend. No gaming on the week days because of work.

Thing is I go out nearly every night, I'm sure that will slow down soon though
smile.gif

Yeah I did that, then all of a sudden its Christmas and you're like where did the last 3 months go. Its good to party but you have to keep in mind why you're there, which I kinda lost sight of, luckily I got back on track. What course are you doing?

Yup, the Fractal Design Define Mini was released not too long ago. I think you can keep your ATX board for maybe like the Ivy Bridge chips, and then buy a mATX board and a mATX case for your current 2500K. That would be neat.

I'm doing a bit of Business related courses, but may change in the future.
laugh.gif

How about you?

Done a little spring cleaning (and dusting, this room gets incredibly dusty), moved the PC back a bit along the desk, can still put my feet up, result

When I get a sound card/speaker system, which is hopefully in a few days, then I will upload some moar pics
smile.gif

Cool, it's nice and clean now. So, what sound card and speaker system have you finally planned to get?
happy.gif

I'm thinking SP2500 and I have a shortlist of Creative Titanium HD, Auzentech X-Fi Forte, ASUS Xonar Essence STX, in no particular order. My reasoning with the sound cards is that when I have more money in the future for better equipment, then it's not as if sound card tech today will be outdated

Creative Titanium HD is a great choice as an alternative to the Asus Xonar Essence STX. The drivers now are certainly better than they used to be, but I'd still stay true to the Xonar Essence STX.

Or what you can do is, get the SP2500 now and wait until you've saved up enough for the Xonar Essence STX. The SP2500 will still sound great with your current X-Fi 5.1 Surround Pro USB sound card as it's a great little device. You'd end up saving on that extra sound card. Well, this is what I'd do anyway.

Yeah it could be the case that the USB sound card is all I need anyway, it's a great little package
smile.gif
I still feel like something else needs to be done with the PC, but let's get some decent money in first

My thoughts exactly. Cheers~

Would be great if you had an mATX case and board. It will definitely free up a lot of room on your desk; you get more feet space...haha.

That way, you could temporarily send your Colossus home for storage until you finish university or something. It's a very nice case to keep for future builds.

Ok, so I've got the sound system, opted for the Corsair SP2500, paired with the USB soundcard from before.

I can sum up my thoughts in one word: stunned.

I can't hear any distortion, but quite honestly, the thing that takes my breath away is the bass. My room vibrates like a sex toy when I put the bass to the maximum level (not that I've used one

), and basically the rest of my flat, the flats below, above and next door shake with this on, so I've had a couple complaints
biggrin.gif

Got the speakers thru LambdaTek, ordered it midday last Monday and it came by 5pm the next day which was impressive, the box is also well packaged if not a bit difficult to carry around. Setting up the system is also easy, there aren't unnecessary cables, though the ones given are quite short, otherwise I'd put the subwoofer underneath the bed like my mate did.

Here's a pic of the setup (I've used the little props to change the speaker angles):

I've unscrewed a bit of the grille above the radiator and fed the cables under there to the subwoofer, which is stupidly big

I really want some Corsair SP2500s perfect form factor and what looks like beautiful bass.

This room really reminds me of my first year Uni room ha.

Hey, that's really nice. You finally got it.
smile.gif

I'm glad you like the quality. It sounds fantastic with almost any sound card doesn't it?

I think if you put the Sub underneath the bed then it would qualify as a sex toy.
biggrin.gif

lol, I'm sure someone would appreciate it

The bass is just amazing, room shaking, without the distortion or harsh feeling you get sometimes, it's actually warming to listen to instead of harsh at the high end as well.

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out is a song I'd definitely recommend for any decent system, it makes the subwoofer sing at the beginning, sounds amazing
biggrin.gif

Which Uni did you go to?

Hey, that's really nice. You finally got it.

I've not yet tried it using on board, and I did expect a little distortion, but there just isn't any, so I'm pretty thrilled
smile.gif
You can use the creative audio panel to tweak it so the bass gets even more powerful, which is a nice feature for flat parties
