Ultra Budget Gaming CPU?

What would be the best budget CPU between the old i3 2100 vs G3258??

I could get dirt cheap a i3 2100 and the mobo Gigabyte H67N-USB3-B3 Mini-ITX from a mate.

What would be best? If I went the G3258 then I have to buy a new mobo as well.

I'd say Athlon 860k > Pentium K with the amount of games needing 4 cores these days. Overclocking boards on FM2+ are also quite cheap.

But I'd go for whichever is cheaper. Both will be capable but not great. Do remember that an i3 is not an actual quad core but a hyperthreaded dual core, so if you plan to play one of those games that won't even start up on a dual core - it won't with the i3 either. You also cannot overclock it.

Yeah, true but in this case its a board with the i3 2100 for 100 euros. Would that be worth it? The 860k + mobo (has to be mini itx) is at least 200+ with shipping.

Bare in mind that it would go with a 9500 GT (relic.. I know) for now and then later a 750 ti

If i was buying new I would go for an athlon 860K, but for the price that i3 is dirt cheap and it's hyper threading might just make it good enough for newer games.

Ofcourse if I was building from scratch then I would go 860k no doubt but the thing is this price for the i3 and mobo for 100 euros. Would the 860k be justified with double the cost?

The game(s) to be played would be Company of Heroes (2006) and Warthunder - nearly no more + some web browsing and some youtube. It will be using zombie parts like a old 9500 GT and some old ssd untill he can upgrade to a 750ti.

TBH the i3 will do fine, with DX12 and Vulcan incoming it might be enough for a good while. It is hard to tell though.

A 270X would be a better bet imo.

An i3 works fine with Warthunder. My old i3 550 and gts450 run it suprisingly well for the most part so it should be ok.

I'd agree with this. 270x over the 750ti.. very close in price so shouldn't be much more. If not a 270 would do as well.. just don't OC as well.

Company of heroes (The original game) is higly single core dependent. an Overclocked G3258 would do wonders in that scenario. ^_^
Also. Regarding the GPU, see if you can find a powercolor 270x PCS+ It's a solid card!
