ULi release of its PCI-Express single-chip

Today ULi announced it is expanding its reach in thelow-end market with the release of its PCI-Express single-chip M1697 core logic. The M1697 provides full support for Socket 754, 939, 940 and M2 processors and comes loaded with all the features you would expect from a modern AMD chipset. Several weeks ago we divulged ULi's internal roadmap with details on the M1697 chipset, but to reiterate the specifications:

• Two PCIe x1 lanes
  
• One PCIe x16 lane that can be reconfigured into two PCIe x8 lanes for dual graphics.
  
• USB 2.0/1.1 PHYs
  
• Four SATA or eSATA 3.0Gbps interfaces
  
• 10/100 integrated Ethernet PHY
  
• 7.1 HD Audio / AC'97 Audio
  
• TPM 1.2

Undeleted this thread, mainly due to the fact that it's not spam and could actually be of interest to some people.

If this is anything like the AsRock ULi board I just got, this could be a winner I recon in the low-mid end market.

The one thing that scares me is the TPM. I really don't like the sound of this from what I've been reading on the net about it and hope that they pull the plug on the whole thing before it REALLY hits hard. To put it in prospect, it could mean the end of overclocking!!!!

It's basically an onboard anti-piracy device that has been threatening to appear for a while now - it's big brother commie type behaviour gone mad.

Adds no value to you at all, yet you pay for the privelage - Probably knocking performance which is bad news all round, not to mention potential compatability issues etc.......

This is a budget board for the straight guy and IMO has no right to even be contemplated by anyone anywhere - that goes for any other TPM chip fitted motherboard.

Complete and utter disgrace that infringes on the basic human right........ the right to choose - 3 cheers for the first person to mod-chip it

I'd sooner buy an Apple Mac that be subjected to that sort of control.

It's not the companies that could put it to harm really. It only takes 1 hacker to make a virus to hit this chip and then you are royally screwed. The worst news is, soon we will never be safe.

AMD and Intel have both signed deals to adopt these 'Palladin' things, inside the CPU!! Soon we will never be safe from Mr Gay(ts) getting hold of any info he so wishes from our systems.

I'm sure that we will find that by shorting pin 36 to pin 126 it will over load the Palladin system
