Well, my CoolerMaster Stacker arrived this morning in the post

It is the beginning of a CPU and GPU peltier water cooled rig. After my V2000b phase rig left me, I went to air for a short period. Air is just too boring and noisy, so it didn't take long for me to move to back to something a little more extreme... I thought I'd log my progress here.

Proposed System Spec:

CoolerMaster Stacker

P4C800-E Deluxe (fully modded and sinked)

Intel 750 & 770 Dothan/ Sonoma (to pick from)

nVIDIA 6800 Ultra (XFX Extreme Model)

2 x 512MB BH-5 Memory

A Hard Disk...

PC Power & Cooling 510 Deluxe

Water Cooling & Peltier Setup:

Swiftech 5002-T Peltier Block 226W (320W maybe) @ 12V

PC Power & Cooling 510

Swiftech 50-TFX GPU Pletier Block 172W @ 24V

24V Beastly Power Supply Unit

AquaXtreme 50Z-DC12 Pump (Cheers Mav)

Thermochill PA-120.3 Radiator & Perfromance Shroud (Cheers Phil)

XSPC Passive Reservoir

Tygon R-3603 1/2 Tubing

Here is the Stacker after inspection...

Not bad, considering it's a steel chassis. It should do the job nicely, you have to remember that there needs to be space for that huge radiator and three power supply units for the system and peltiers. I'll add the proposed general arrangement soon, so that you can see where everything has to go

3 PSUs? Oh boy...I`m lookin forward to seeing pics of that setup! I`m expecting some extreme Tec-age- and some extreme cabling!

I hope to have a worthy contender, it'll hopefully give off some good benches for EPUK and will provide a good frame for future upgrades...

Here is the General Arrangement, just to show where I propose all the bits to go.

I think the top fill port should be quite cool, as it's transparent which lights up. I'll have to make up a aluminium plate to go around it to mount onto the chassis. The plan is to have in sprayed in a very shiny mirror black - I have some left over Peugeot black paint I may use at home...

This is hopefully one rig which I'll be able to keep the side panels on

They are actually aluminium by the way.

Blimey that's a crazy rig, im looking forward to seeing it come together, i really like the looks of the stacker, it is a perfect case for liquid cooling.

You do know you will be able to get only one, two at a tight squeeze other drive bay components, i measured it up when i came to placing my 120.3 and it is tight

Yeah if you're using 3 different PSUs for different components won't the slightly different voltages screw everything up (as in break it)?

You do know you will be able to get only one, two at a tight squeeze other drive bay components, i measured it up when i came to placing my 120.3 and it is tight

I just measured that up a little earlier, I was hoping for three spare, but you are right - there will only be two (I'll figure something out!)

Only one PSU is powering the CPU and GPU and Mobo. The other one at the bottom will power the 12V TEC and maybe Hard Drives and pump. The 24V PSU will solely power the 24V TEC for the GPU - That will get very cold I should think

Power Supplies are more efficient with lighter loads, as I want a 24/7 system running with nothing to worry about

Well, Marci seems to think they are quite good - see the thread on XS and it gives approximate heat dissapations for each. You must remember that this is a Dothan being cooled with a Thermal Load rating of only 27W, 27Watts under load = excellent

But overclocked I'll call it 50W + 140W (226 undervolted) = 190W

GPU = 100W? + 172W = 272

272+190= 462 Watts

=OK

The radiator arrived this morning - the courier was also quite friendly

So I'm happy, I consider this to be a major part of the assembly - the radiator fits in place - but will probably need some work to get my hard drives in somewhere. I'm hoping they will fit behind the radiator...

To protect the processor core I made a shim out of an old credit card. I measures it with the micrometer and it was about the same height as the core 0.82mm, so I sanded it down to about 0.8mm. That'll hopefully work, but I'm sure I'll find out soon enough

dunno if this has been dealt with before, but which gives a better gaming rig, a dothan or opteron. both are relatively good overclockers.

Well, I don't actually know yet. It is a hefty thing too, I'll get a photo of it next to the CPU in a bit. It weighs loads, I'll have to be very careful not to squash it!

EDIT: Here, look at the size of that! It must weigh about a kilo.

You use the standard retention mechanism as it still stands over the socket, just needs a bit of modding and some ingenuity.

Be very careful with that dothan core, nice idea with the credit card (i like the VOID VOID VOID all over it )

That's a beasty cooler for such a delicate thing.

Yeah, hopefully the block won't be too much of a problem to mount. It will definitely require the modification of the Ct-479, so i have to make sure it functions fine before I mod it, so that I don't void the warranty. I have a feeling it may well be a dud...

I have managed to mount the radiator in the front. You can see how tight a fit it is to the hard drive enclosure above!

You say "tight" I say "neat" It fits so snug that it looks like that kind of mix was planned for by Coolermaster!
