TV or PC

OK so we all know the days of the TV are numbered and hopefully if the UK can get up to speed with Broadband that we will all soon be watching TV's via our PC (home network).

I for one really don't want this to happen, I prefer my TV to be a TV and completely stand alone from my PC but I fear that sooner or later we may be forced to change. I don't like being 'forced to do anyting' I'd rather decide myself what is best for my lifestyle.

I know that it's all in the cause of progress but I still prefer my PC to be a PC and my TV to be a TV, I DON'T want a PC in my living room and I DONT want to have to install a costly home network in spare cupboard space.

I know this is also in the 'future' but sooner or later it's going to happen and I don't want it to.

Please discuss or just call me a technophobe hippy and I should move with the times :D

You're a "technophobe hippy" and should move with the times :D:D

I agree - PC and TV seperate.

Having said that a nice HTPC under the TV for browsing and playback purposes is something I'm quite up for :D

Get with the times hippy! Quit livin' in the past :p

Tbh I think I'm exactly the opposite, I deliberately try and connect my PC up to my TV (and everything else) and network the house up. I have 2 PCs in my room and if I had the money it'd probably be 3 (I'd like a little one under the TV just for recording stuff).

Oh and you won't need to waste a cupboard for networking, I'm sure by the time that our houses 'need' to be networked the plug in things (that's a technical term!) will do the job nicely.

TV, by that I mean Sky from my pov, is crap.

Everyday I stick it on and theres nothing to watch but repeats. My TV then turns into a 2nd screen for one of my pcs to either listen to a radio show (from the states, not a sky broadcasting radio channel - all of those suck now imo) or watch a dvd.

Many moons ago I subscribed to every channel on Sky, cos imo it was worth it - now I find myself thinking which band of channels shall I cut off next cos they`re redundant.

They just "revamped" the movie section.. for that read cut the number of movie channels by 2 and cut the 24 hour previous show timings down to where some now close at 4am, and carry the same film(s) for 5 days or so. "We`ve made it easier for u to find stuff" - the advert still says. Well ya there`s less selection to flick through.

The Simpsons is getting a bit tiring now, never thought I`d hear myself say that >.<

I do hold the thought tho that the next tv I purchase, later in the year, has to have pc connectivity - simple as that.

Can`t personal watch tv on a small screen on my pc, I used to try that on my Amiga, never got on with it. Used to use it as a background as u messed about.

HTPC ftw!

:)

I don't want to be downloading content from the net instead of using freeview tho :( if that starts to happen wave goodbye to 20ms gaming

you can do sooooo much more with a htpc!! how could you not want it!

I think even tho potentially theres more flavorable content available to u via htpc, I don`t think u spend more time watching tv when u have 1.

Sure when the novelty is fresh u`ll spend loads of time seeing what u can do, but when the dust settles, I feel u find u`rself watching what u want - when u want.

Advertizers have to h8 it - hence I feel they should pump more money into the likes of Sky/Virgin, but not with more commercials - and do away with freakin ads every 10 minutes !!

The Simpsons sponsered by Dominos - is fine - AT THE START AND AT THE END !

ef sake.

Sky+ ftw tbh

Love it - it's so damn easy and no adverts. Sure an HTPC can do that but MCE just isn't as damn slick as Sky+

Yeah Sky+ is a great concept, I loved it when I first had it, but I don`t see anything I want to record anymore - perhaps a football game a week ? and of course PV`s girls doing aerobics ;)

I never record football - don't see the point.

I do tend to record films I fancy 'cause they're never on when I wanna watch em. And of course the missus keeps up with all the cr@p she watches.

Plus I get to record stuff I wanna watch and watch it when she doesn't have control of the remote (for control read - she whinges when I switch off "America's next Top Tw@t")

I would get sky+ if I watched tv enough. Seems pretty good.

Instead I have the next best thing :) freeview + MediaPortal :D

Altho I keep buying DVD's of different series' that are on sky :( prob still works out cheaper than a sky subscription tho I guess :)

I love film, its a hobby to watch them. So i have my whole collection on the 1.4TB storage i have. Saves soooooo much room. Dvds can now be put away in storage.

Isn`t it amazing, we were glad that DVDs came along coz of all the space VHS/beta used to take up, now we`re packing our DVDs away in storage :)
