It looks like NVIDIA could be readying its new triple SLI platform if a slide published by Expreview is to be believed. The new three-way SLI will allow users to use three NVIDIA graphics cards simultaneously to run demanding 3D applications, although there are still very few details about it at present. The technology is being branded as “The new Ultimate Gaming Platform” by NVIDIA, and will work using a new three-way SLI bridge connector, with NVIDIA’s nForce 680i and 780i being the first chipsets to support it. If this slide is for real, then the GeForce 8800 Ultra and GTX will be the only cards capable of triple SLI to start with, but presumaby more will follow soon after – if triple SLI is more successful than quad SLI that is (which was largely let down by poor drivers). ATI is also planning to use three graphics cards with its CrossFire technology in the near future, where one card is expected to be dedicated to physics processing.

Nvidia better get cracking on some decent drivers if this is true. SLI doesn't even provide enough benefits to warrant the purchase of an additional card...let alone two (imo).

Yeah agreed. Then throw Vista (32- and 64-bit) into the mix and the need for decent drivers becomes even more urgent with that much firepower. However MS did release an update to improve SLI performance under Vista, I just don't know how successful it has been.

The cooling looks like it will suffer.. :)

The middle card will go bang.. or even the bottom.. or the top!

All the fans are being obstructed.

I don't think this will take off.

For one the likes of Kingpin/Kinc etc aren't going to like the fact there is no way they could fit any pots in (ln2/dice etc), being restricted to air is a joke. Maybe someone will release ultra thin w/c blocks but still...

Second main point: DRIVERS! As everyone has already mentioned sli drivers aren't the best, adding a 3rd card to the mix is only going to make matters worse. I saw an interesting article re. Vista's performance in games now, compared to 10 months ago vs XP. Vista is now almost on par with XP and slightly better in a few games. When I remember where the article is i'll post - I wonder if they did sli, can't remember...

3rd: The cost. Well it's going to be for the uber rich.

I suppose people with 30" monitors will have a use for it!

Its just a bit pointless really.. 3 cards? Can't see it being worth the manufacturing and marketing for the few people that will bother to take advantage of it.

... and a few weeks l8r a G9800 XTXTXTX comes out and spanks it ..

Assuming the air intake is at the side of the cards and not the rear, that`s pretty tight.

EDIT: btw I think the picture is a fake. Not saying they don`t do it, but meh.

i too see it a bit pointless, seeing that even normal sli doesnt give decent 100% or at least 80% performance boost, im not even talking about triple sli, this is just ridiculous

ok so i'm getting this from that picture...

you put your high performance, fps helping, gaming surround sound card urhm... where?

so 3 gfx cards... no decent sound :S this makes sense

Good point SuB! :)

The GPU heatsinks take up the PCI slot space.. so nowhere to put you other cards like network, sound or maybe TV.. Bad design.

Hmm, maybe one or two of those little slots above the usual agp space. And don`t forget they think u love their onboard sound and nic points :) lol

all i can make out from the pic is

the middle is now a 16x slot

the led is now the other way round

and it has that new hard drive upgrad chip thingy on there thats it realy

and there gona charge about 200 quide for that sor a lane you will never use unless

a they sort drivers out mmmmmmmm NOPE

b you got more money than sence MAYBE

c and its only gona be for water cooling and you will need 2 loops that a £100 pounds just on pumps almost £200 on gpu blocks thats £300 gone already and still need rads hose coolent cpu block sb nb mosfets and guess what a massive case thats gona cost more than 100 alone this is getting stupid peps

d for the air cooling guys your stuffed peps card are dying now in sli becouse it gets to hot never mind slaping another 60 deg in middle alone

pc are my life but reaching breaking point now has they keep taking the p out of use the user:mad:

According to Fudzilla, adding a 3rd card will "supposedly" give a more positive result over using 2cards. By that I mean a 2nd card will say be 60% mroe efficient but a 3rd card will efficiently be like 80% added onto it. So you may have 100FPS, adding anotehr card gets you 60FPS more, but adding a third gets you 80FPS more, how that works tho I got no idea.

If the 8800gt or w/e the g92 is has this option, then it may be worth it in long run, as users can buy one to start with, then when they got more cash buy another, then when they got more cash buy yet another.

I've heard rumors about it for some time now, so it's probably legit. What does the company have to lose... it's probably not difficult from a hardware standpoint, the main magic would have to happen in software.

But yea, between lack of driver support and the ridiculous price, I don't see this becoming popular at all.
