Triple Displays

I wont to build a gaming rig and was thinking of doing Triple eyefinity (3 Displays) but i don't know if its just "overrated" as such and would like to try it out somewhere but i have no idea where i can i live in Sydney so if anyone has any idea of a place or event with a Triple eyefinity set up that i could go try out before i go invest the money in it it would be much appreciated

Don't think there are many places that would go to the trouble to set it up for you on the off chance you may buy or not to be honest.

Best place would be a gaming event or something like that where there would most likely be a triple monitor set up.

In my opinion though one large screen > three smaller screens.

yea i think for me it was the novelty of the idea more than anything but i still haven't discarded the idea and still would like to try it out and i do agree with the fact that that no one is going to set it up on the spot but i don't know where to get the information about Australian events

triple screens is good, when im just generally browsing one screen i will have steam chat up, one with music or browsing the net and one with browsing the net.

Gaming wise you get to see a lot more, not all games support it though so you may have to make tweaks.

I don't know where you could try it but I have a triple setup. Three 30" Displays each 2560x1600 resolution for a combined resolution of 7680x1600 or 8120x1600 with Bezel Compensation.

I will be completely honest with you about this putting aside all the money I've spent on this setup and any bias I may have towards the technology and saving face for spending so much on the kit.

In my opinion Triple screen Gaming is rubbish. The amount of games that support it is very very small. Don't get me wrong the games technically work but there are many issues especially with in-game menus and HUD's.

For example lets say you play a game like Team Fortress 2. Quite a popular title played by millions of people. It works in Surround / Eyefinity. But it isn't designed to work. Your health bar is all the far on the left edge of the screen, your weapon selector is all the way on the far right of the screen. It just doesn't work and it takes a lot of meddling to get the interface centered.

I had quirks like that in quite a lot of games. Some games like Battlefield 3 do have built in support for ultra-wide resolutions such as the ones presented by Eyefinity and NVIDIA Surround but there are still bugs and issues. Even today if I open the latest Battlefield 3 and access the in-game menu it appears off screen. And when I say off screen I mean it is literally being rendered somewhere I can't see on any of my three displays. This means to change any kind of setting I have to disable triple screens or use an external program. Similar thing happens when I try to look at the scoreboard, renders off-screen.

These sort of quirks hound triple screen gaming and I don't regret buying a 3rd display because it serves me well in multitasking but in gaming it just doesn't work like you want it to. I feel it needs a few more years of polish and the game developers need incentive to support something that is really just a niche right now.

I hope you can try it in person to make your own decision. When it works it is a lot of fun but unfortunately it just doesn't work often enough or across enough game titles to make it worth while in my opinion.

vicey thanks for the info helped a lot and i think that is something i didn't consider because well all the reviews i have watched just fail to bring up info like that and to be honest i play games to relax and just chill out (why i don't play COD lol...) after school and if all i had to do was set up a custom res for each game or something like that i would probably go for it but if there are problems like you are saying especially in games like bf3 i might consider going with just the one monitor

thanks again for that
