Transportable????

Hello all
I am thinking of doing a water-cooled build, but have never done one before. I was wondering can you easily transport them around. I am at university and go back and fourth taking my rig home in between terms. At the movement I am air-cooled so I just lay my pc flat on its side in the boot with plenty of padding so it does not get bashed about. This is fine and have been doing to for nearly a year now. Would I be able to do this with water cooling or is not transportable easily. The other option is to go with closed loop and get the G10 for my graphic card. I would want to want water cool my graphics card as i would want a silent rig and room for over-clocking

would like to know what you think. :)

With a closed loop cooler, it should be fine, but a custom loop? I would probably not transport that alot. Especially not on its side. It may be alright if your careful, but I'd avoid it.

I have to agree with MaddenShadow you'll be fine with a AIO but I personally wouldn't risk a custom loop in transport, unless your going to drain it before and fill it up when you get to your location.

I have a full custom loop with 3 blocks, 2 rads, a D5, and a tube res, and I move mine between home and uni about 6 times a year, and I've not had any problems. Just make sure you build it well, and put something in your case to minimise any potential damage from transporting it. Perhaps put some paper towel around fittings, and packing material in big gaps between components. Personally I just use the packing material and don't bother with paper towels, and I've not had a problem yet.

If I transport a watercooled rig myself by car I don't drain it. If I send one via courier I send it out dry with the coolant separate and give instructions on how to fill, bleed and leak test it before use. I make it as simple as possible by making the loop easy to fill and drain.

If you're not 100% confident you can make it robust enough to be transported, make it easy to drain and fill.

Thanks for all the replies , am going to think about it then, i would like to do a custom loop but a AIO maybe better for me. I would not want to drain it every single time i have to move it.

aye I've moved a few water cooled rigs about in my time it's just a case of building it right.

Yea no problems here either moving a fully filled water cooled rig. I just put it on a thick bit of foam to protect from jarring and make sure the fill ports are done up well.
