Top end drives.

I'd love to be in the industry you guys are in, I just love tinkering with all the latest gear etc.

Anyway, I had an idea for a review on OC3D.

I think it would be good to compare the ultimate hard drive configurations.

So, that would mean putting the standard disks against solid state drives, then comparing value etc, so that gamers and high end users can make the right choice.

Anyway, I was wondering if perhaps I could help with the article or try and arrange the article, then get it published here on OC3D.

I don't know everything that's involved, but I hope it's of interest.

Yeah it deffo sounds like it could be an interesting article.

With regards for writing reviews for OC3D there are two ways to get on to the team:

1. Arrange and write a review off your own back, send it to us and if it's good enough we'll publish it and also make sure you are rewarded for your work.

2. Agree to an initiation review. We'll send you something small (like a keyboard, thermal paste) and if you can write a good review about something that cr@p then we'll slowly build you up to the big things.

But ye...something like SSD vs Raid Raptor vs Verlociraptor would make a good review.

Ive got a pretty good pc here, As long as its not really specialist, like overclocking to the max (everything will overheat and die, which I dont want) then I'd be happy to do a review.

I was leaning towards the Hard drive thing as Ive already got a pair of Raptors, then I could simply get in touch with Samsung and WD for a velociraptor(s) and an SSD.

Ill give them an email tommorow, what do you think?
 
Ive just realised, Since Ive got no guarantee that you will like my article, nor am I writing to get it published elsewhere, the companies aren't going to want to sponsor me.

So, If I could review something small for OC3D, then you can see if you like me and we can go from there?

Throw in an everyday 16m cache "Seagate" SATA2 and one of those 32m things and u would have 1 heck of a comparison.

Always a good job to include standard drives imo, it gives the person with them in their rig already a mode of self comparison.
 
Don`t have any personal bias myself. I think I`ve got atleast one from each manuf out there, and have atleast one from each manuf crap out on me at some point. Shizzle happens imo.
 
low end:

SATA-2 Maxtor 80Gb

normal hard drive:

250Gb Samsung SATA-2

cheep performance:

WD Raptor 80 gig

performance:

Raid 0/1 say two 80 gig hitachi deskstars

high performance:

velocirapter

super high performance:

SSD

is what i would rank them as
 
Yup :) This was aimed at being a high end guide, So i think comparing raptors, velociratptors, Samsung SSD's all against say a samsung F1..

yeh

i just feel that the seagate drives get that extra bit in them - i meant they gotta be different for them to offer an additional 2 years - surely :p

That`s decent. I`d like to see a reflection on 16/32m cache too. There`s also the 750g+ speed theory too.

Wow, u really gotta watch how far u go cos this beast could go over the top.

Myself, personally, I`d probably throw in an IDE drive - but that`s going the extra mile on foot, when u got a car.

Nope. If you look at the model numbers, they're the exact same as the Seagate couterparts

If I were to do the review, Id have top end, then a normal drive.. not loads.

I've been meaning to reply sooner. Just wanted to clear one thing up first. If you contact any of these companies, it has to be off your own back. You cannot ask for review items on behalf of OC3D. TBH most companies would probably think you are trying to pull a fast one if the email doesn't come from an OC3D email address.

Drop me a PM and we'll discuss things further :)
