The laptop has two ram slots, and two 512mb sticks.

I've tried endlessly to put the other 512 stick back in but I just cant seem to get it pushed in.

the ram sticks are like that basicly, with one stick on the bottom further back, and one on the top that sits just over it.

Does anyone know if I'm doing something wrong, do I need to push it harder?

I have 4gb corsair RAM that should arrive monday, is it worth risking breaking my ram slot by trying to get this back in? I'm considering just leaving it with 512 for a few days until I can get the 4gb and take it to a computer store for installation.

Sometimes they can be a little hard to push in especially if they have only had 1 stick of ram in them. You could also be putting it in backwards as both clips will never clip down if it's in backwards.

Note which way the stickers are facing on the ram stick that is already in there and match it up that way, when you push the ram down and it's in correctly the clip on each side should clip on themselves when the ram is pushed down.

The ram has a little bit cut out of it, and the slot has a little nudge bit which the ram SHOULD slot into... So I am 100% sure it's facing the correct way. I can get about 1mm of the little nub into the ram stick, but it just doesnt seem to go all the way.

As I type this, I have a 900mb page file, with just firefox and msn.

Well, If it's damaged, I'm afraid your only option is to buy new RAM.

No its not damaged... Its supposed to be there... I'm just going to have to live with 512 ram for.... 4 days. Oh no :(

But 4gb of corsair will be arriving shortly!

Hope u didnt fall into the same trap I did a few years ago. There is a very small difference between the laptop ddr1 & ddr2.

If I were u I'd take the working memory out and offer the new memory up to it. If the notch is out by a few mm, then it's the wrong type.

Interesting, I managed to get it back in, (its the stock ram).

The trick was to push it forwards, then tilt it up about 45 degrees, then push in, then push down again.
