to wait...or not to wait?

the question is the title of this thread...

basically ill have $2000 US dollars to blow on a rig this summer...but i wont be able to buy a new rig or upgrade it much except for minor things for a good long time (like 3+ years)...so i want it to last. now that i hear ddr4 is coming and that samsung made some pretty legit modules (3200mhz?), im afraid that when i buy the new rig and slap some ddr3 in there its gonna be dated quite shortly. and since ram always needs a whole new chipset, cpu, and all that nonsense to operate (a new mobo and cpu), i dont want to even deal with upgrading when that comes if i build a ddr3 rig now. so, to wait or not to wait?

Do you really want it straight away?

Also before buying i would try to research to see if the ddr4 will even be beneficial to gaming

well...i get some absolutely horrible microstutter in games as of now with the rig in my sig....crysis 3 shows 60+ fps on low 1080p but it just has terrible stutter, but i guess no, i dont need it quite yet

Well crysis 3 is only beta so it should be fixed soon anyway, You can wait for ddr4 but haswell is mainly focusing on the igpu and efficiency and the mobos/ chipsets will all in all probably not be worth the wait for maybe 5-8fps extra.

With haswell releasing before ddr4 anyway intel would have to change the chipsets and memory controllers during mid life and i see that high unlikable,so most likely the next intel cpus would be the upgrade to have ddr4 etc..

So get the rig now would be my suggestion:)

and this new build will also be crossfire/sli'ing high end cards like 7970/680 so keep that in mind, cause ive been told that sli and xfire drivers are pretty shitty with stuttering and all that nonsense so that might be another reason to wait

That is all driver issues and not as bad as you think, why 680s? 670s save money and also allows for a bigger ssd or whatever:)

quite honestly all im gonna do for an ssd is a hyperx 128 gig cause all im gonna put on there is os and a couple of games lol. and 680/7970 was only a suggestion because the new generation of gpus is gonna be out by summer, right?

Thats the rumor mill yes, amd 8xxx should be here in march/spring.
Hyperx/3k are good ssds. You really should consider gooing all ssd at this budget to be honest

just looking at reviews and tom seems to love the switch 810 a lot...and come to think of it i may have to go with a custom water loop...i would feel like a chump if i didnt with a big budget :O

i wouldnt really wait for DDR4 for gaming, the clock rates aren't worth major
FPS or playability.

studder/tearing on a 550ti? what monitor arrangement? id think if you up the settings
a bit, the studder will disappear as the over-run is fractioning the signal. or the
overclock is dumping faster than the monitor rate..
buy now or prep fast. the newer hardwarez for the platforms might have a 10%
of 15% impact over now-tech.

idk, i think it might be my cpu/ram getting pooped on thats causing the 550 ti to stutter...it shows 85% usage and 60+ fps all the time

just a thought...would it be worth paying $300 to tide me over until ddr4 if i buy an fx6300 and a 990fx mobo with 8 gigs 1866 ram?

well its a small upgrade but compared to your current hardware its much better. If you really wanna wait to next tech comes out then yes go for it:)

DDR4 will not be groundbreaking. As it stands, only a few select applications are majorly affected by an increase of memory speed. Wait for the new line of GPUs and CPUs to come out, sure. But I really wouldn't recommend waiting for DDR4 to roll out.

cooler master haf 932 OR nzxt switch 810
logysis led strips (red)
asus maximus V formula mobo
2x gigabyte 7970
corsair hx850 modular psu
i7 3770k
g.skill 2x4gb sniper 1866 mhz
kingston hyper x 3k 120gb ssd
arctic silver 5 paste
cm hyper 212 evo

switch 810 is a better case and if you get the matte black version you could put red led strips in it. Drop the gigabyte cards and go something with a black pcb not a blue, would look kinda funky.

Drop artic silver 5 and go with artic mx2 paste. Really a hyper 212 evo with a $2k budget? At least get a h100i

the 212 is a temporary stand in until I get a real water loop, and there aren't any 7970s with a ref pcb ( water cooling) that are black except for the overpriced ones :(
