To speedstep or not to speedstep ?

So I noticed when I have speedstep on I get random little freezes because the clock speed has dropped for a second down quite low.

Now when I have have speedstep disabled this never happens and temps are literally 1-2'c higher at full clocks etc...

Is it safe to have it disabled or should I re-enable it ?

I know I should know this by now but I've never really used SS.

I thought that might shorten the chips lifespan ?

Kind of the whole 'negative' side of overclocking dude.

Leave it off if you're OC'ing at all ;) And if you OC you need to accept it will likely shorten the life of the chip

Never had any issues with speedstep or the amd equivalent. (cool 'n' quiet) That's with all of my cpu's running overclocks. C states have caused me a few issues so i always turn them off. (huge jump in dpc latency vs off) Unparking the cores also helped to smooth things out a bit too on my 4820k, never tried it on my phenom but i think it would have improved things there too.
