To RMA or not to RMA...

My Hiper Type-R is just less than 4 weeks old.

Since the start it has had a temperamental connection where the power lead connects into the back of the PSU. Whenever it was slightly moved it would make a electric crackling noise.

Last night when unplugging my speaker cables i touched the power cord and the thing cracked pretty loud and cut out. It came back on but it seems really dodgy now. I got it from Ebuyer :(

Sounds like it needs to go back?

Shame to hear that, my hipers been strong as for nearly a year now. Yes RMA it. Cracking noise = death eventualy, happened to my mates.

Only noise should be a little *pop* sound when you plug in the power lead. Wich i belive is the capacitors discharging. But it could be totaly worng...

RMA it mate, alot of people have had problems with the Hiper PSU although I have owned mine for over a year now and it has been faultless :p

Does sound like an RMA.

CRT monitor`s on/off switches can go like this after a while, usually with them it`s a poor contact in the switch. Eventually they`ll stick in either the on or off position.

I`d try another 3 prong power lead in the supply first, just to check it isn`t a connection thing.

Crackles around power stuff is never good, and after 4 weeks ?? hmm

Hiper aint that bad, but RMA this paticular model, it seems faulty, ...when they arnt faulty, they are pretty decent value for money, and seem to have stable rails.

I`ve had 2 Hipers, very cheaply purchase and they lasted the course, one has outlasted the mobo :p more or less 5 years down the line they`re in storage to be used again.

RMA and possibly get a refund, then buy this.

Looked into this psu and made some comparisons - as an OC3D forum member, the prices ST are selling it for coupled with the tempting 10% make it a damn fine choice for a 500w sli and delectibly modular.

Thanks guys. Looks like i'll be without my pc until i get my psu delivered aw man! I will try for the refund from ebuyer but if not ill either get this one or this one

Completely off topic, I'm selling one of my EVGA 7900GT SS on ebay and throwing in a 512 stick of ram to boot. It's not selling with a reserve of £160. Am I asking too much? The dude is offering me £125 - I don't know if I should take it!?

Tried another power lead, no more crackles or power cuts so no need to rma - cheers man. I'm having a whole host of probs at the mo. Arrrrrrgh.

I'm not going to be able to fit my w/c kit until i iron out all these bugs
