i can tell you that i bought a macbook in 2009 and sense then i have had no issues what so ever with it and love it and i still get 4-5 hours of battery... i use it for documents/ iTunes and internet and thats about it.

If i need real horse power ill go on my desktop i built. I have however upgraded it to a 160gb intel SSD and 4gb of ram and this 3yr old mac is faster than the new ones for what i do.

Lots more useful comments thanks guys, i do have to say when i look at the gaming laptops im very unimpressed with their size/weight until to get to the same prices as the new macs which would kinda defeat the object for me. Im after something NOT for gaming but to be very mobile easy to use reliable with long battery life and if i wanted to upgrade in a couple of years something that holds its value better , which is kinda why i looked at the macs in the first place.

My desktop rig is for gaming and altho im constantly debating whether to upgrade that or not ( dont we all ? ) i really want the laptop to be something just for either light browsing/lots of work or chatting.

I will say ive been looking at the dell vostros but if im completely honest to get one with a decent spec i kinda feel im running into the territory where i could just buy a good 2nd hand macbook for the same price or cheaper.

Well ill continue to chance my luck on ebay hoping to snag a bargin and as ive only just started studying ill survive without for the moment , tho if anyone finds or nkows of a great slimline long battery life windows based laptop i would definately like to see it

Alienware m11x Enough said.

YOU MUST SMOKE CRACK O.O Msi=FTW Laptops < <

I bought an MSI for school last year, it was a decent little laptop. No comparison to an MBP however.

I am using an HP EliteBook now which is about as close as possible I can find quality build wise to an MBP. Pockets just can't afford another one otherwise I'd be rockin it for sure!

I'm posting from a Hackintosh desktop right now. :-P

I'd get a laptop which you can actually put on your lap. Mac "laptops" get really hot (or loud if you install a fan control utility).

Why'd you buy a Alienware then?

Higher graphical specs but, I am regretting it now =___= The new GT780R's have a GTX570m but, the 6990m I have still blows the MSI away. So I gotta say, Ultimate Performance=Alienware((note, I say this because all the others that have higher specs then alienware look like arse to me.)) Ultimate Build Quality-MSI Imo.

Agreed. The competitors do look like the housing of some £200 Lenovo BS
