Thinking of skipping 512MB GTX's

Well I asked about X1800 masters being taken off the OcUK X1800 page. I actually got a response:

(I'd also said I was annoyed at ordering a XT slave at £470 then them dropping the price to £410 and they sorted it out :O).

I don't really mind waiting until Christmas as my cascades will take a while too but when it all finally does land it will be earth shattering.

Glad I could help ;)

Those cascades are taking forever man - u sure there gonna arrive?:scared:

LOL yeah he was just waiting for better compressors (220v ones for England) but I told him to just use a convertor so it's now in his huge to-do list. Should get them for xmas.

Hang in there a little bit longer my friend I am sure that the classifieds will yield a pair of 7800GTX's (fully volt modded) in the new year - capable of 630/1500 - not mine I hasten to add as they are destined elsewhere when the time is right (but they stay in EPUK ;) )

Ooo that's a tempting one, might not be able to though as by then it would probaby be worth waiting for the RD580 motherboards, the new year is still about 6 weeks away.

Argh more things to consider in my decisions :$

What is the next gen of nVidia goodnees then? after the 512mb GTX's I mean.

Mav, I defo a agree with you, its just a refresh product... hardly any faster than your GTX's atm.. wait for FX60 and then the new spankers of gfx cards that are avail at the time.

ANyone have any links to the next gen of gfx from the big boys?

Cheers for the link, that's an interesting article :)

I wonder if the reason the 512 is slower in some areas at same clocks as the 256 is because of the additonal access time required to use the extra 256MB of memory...

I would think that the 512MB would show a greater difference when put under greater memory load, eg: 3D CAD and games to be released etc.

I'm looking forward to the new cards on the line up...

Mav, check this review - http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_7800_gtx_512mb/page3.asp

to see why imo theres no point trading out your 256mb gtx's yet

Thanks for that Vrykyl mate - kinda confirms what I am feeling and appreciate the linky to prove the theory.

Stocky - you might have a point there - the other point to make is that perhaps to get the speed the jolly green giant has over-loosened the latencies on the RAM - watch out for modded BIOS with tighter timings.
