thinking of going a different way

ok so I found a nice lil bundle at newegg for 705$ shipped

* Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor (Model: BX80601950)

* ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Motherboard

* CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (Model:CMP6GX3M3A1600C8)

* OCZ Agility 2 2.5" 60GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (Model: OCZSSD2-2AGTE60G)

now keep in mind this is a bundle so it cant be changed.

Question how would this compare better or worse than upgrading my AMD 925 x4 to a 1090T for its purchase I added a 120gb corsair ssd and ripjaw 2x4gb memory for 535$ shipped now for the Intel route I'd have to buy another case and PSU (so I'd have 2 rigs
smile.gif
well definatly a case as I could use my old psu for now.

so tell me how much better is the 950 and is it worth the extra cost for me to go this way.

Well when it comes to processor performance the 950 is going to out perform the 1090t and have a lot better overclocking. The sabertooth board is a fantastic board and the difference between 6 gigs and 8 gigs of ram in most applications (games included) wont be that great (if noticeable at all). I think that your best bet would be to go with X58, in the long run you will have more room for upgrading and better overclocking performance and better performance from the CPU in general even without an overclock. The 1090t may be 6 cores but the 950 is 4 hyper threaded cores which gives you 8 processing threads in comparison to the 1090ts 6 threads. Sooooooooo long story short I would have to say 950 is the way to go, hope this helps man!

it does tyvm I really want to try out dual gpu's but as I have gone green team its not in the cards for amd lol so leaning pretty hard this way already. But I also just recalled something else that I need to make my life simpler
smile.gif
a washer and dryer for my apartment. The laundry room is about a block away so not bad (unless you have to carry all those dirty cloths weekly lol. With myself and 2 small girls you wouldnt think it'd be alot but lol it is. SO I think once I see some replies here and price some units at Best Buy tomorrow. I'll make my decision. I'm coming into about 2400$ but I dont want to blow it all at once lmao.

Back on topic lol I have been wanting to try intel but not sure what its all about in the bios for oc'n and such. I know AMD pretty well and know with it its up the fsb a lil at a time then raise multi and bammo pretty much. With intel I see ppl chattin about blk this and that not sure what its all about lol.

Nice bundle,i would love to buy one myself if i lived in the u.s.

Oc`ing intel is much easier achieved, and more stapple in the long run.4.0ghz with that setup and a noctua nh-d14 is easily achieved and a "lucky" chip do 4.2-4.4ghz.

Above 3.8-3.9ghz the hexcore 10xx need higher increasing volts, and freezes much easier above 4.0ghz if not set properly in bios. And temps higher than 55c isnt good for stability either.

There are manny intel-guys to answer any question
wink.gif
,and there should be answers enough already in oc-section if you want to read about it.

I myself like this one.Techs and specs are a little different from your bundle, but basicly the same.

http://forum.overclo...-noctua-nh-d14/

This is one of the best tutorials oc`ing i7-9xx ever
smile.gif

overclocking is the same on intel vs amd, blk is the new intel fsb.

sandybridge is more like ocing a be but you cant touch the base clock at all.

that brings in another question, why bloomfield and not sandybridge?

thanks for the linkage lol I have been looking at item reviews and not looking at our site for tutorials lol but def will check it out

no reason in particular really just steppin up a lil at a time but I'll looks at sb bundles and see if I can get a better buck banging
biggrin.gif

its where i would put my cash if i was buying today, yes bloomfield is a nice setup but sandybridge is better (not knocking your i7 set ups here guys as they piss all over my q9550) and will have a longer lifespan given that the ivy bridge chips will also be coming out on that socket too.

so down the line you could drop the best part of a grand (its about £850 atm) on a i7 990 or im guessing about half that on an ivy bridge which will be faster clock for clock and has all the same features. the only gamble in my eyes is how well they oc as under extreme cooling sb isnt quite hitting the same nutter high speeds as bf but unless you play with dice/l2o/phase i dont really see that as an issue either.

well looking at it all over and over again isnt tearing me any towards Intel yet. looking at the 2 ways I'm considering I see it this way.

Intel 705$ shipped yes sweet deal but do I really need it. When for 512$ shipped I get bigger ssd which I want. The 8gb of memory I dont have to have but again I want. I dont do any vid editing or anything so realistically I could drop 99$ off the 512$ price. If I went Intel I'd have to buy another case to house the AMD setup. Do I really need 2 comps lol no but it'd be nice
smile.gif
Then I'd have to get another gpu for the AMD comp lol more $$$$

man alive I cant decide lol

The Sabertooth doesn't have the lovely load of power phases stuff around the CPU socket and phases are for overclocking. That's all that I see a disadvantage with that board though I'm not educated enough to know for certain

Ther ASUS ROG boards have a BIOS reset button on the rear I/O pannel. My OC'ing stopped the PC booting and I switch it off, press the button and it boots
smile.gif

There's a new thread for the Sabertooth and member Todd writes the NB overheats

i think intel usa has pulled all the p67s until they replace the chipset with the b3 spec chips so they save a few $$ when they start to recall them.

the new boards should be on sale next month as thats when they are meant to start the recalls over here, but saying that they are still selling the b2 spec chips on boards over here and replacing them all then too :|

YEAH BEEN LOOKING ABOUT A BIT SAW SOMEWHERE SOMEBODY SAID THE GIGABYTE X58-UD3R HAD WIDER SPACED PCI-E SLOTS TO AID IN KEEPING 2 CARDS COOL. Damn caps lock If I go intel it will be for the ability of running dual gpu's as I went green team with my 560Ti which imho is awesome. But heck if $$$ was no object I'd be running 990x and 4 580's in quad sli lol But looking for best bang for buck option is always difficult. I'm leaning towards the 1090t with an ssd and a noctua d14 and forgo the added memory 4 now. would put me at the same 512$ (getting 10$ off memory and 10$ off cpu bonus from last purchase) so I'd loose the 10 on memory and the noctua is 89 so it balances out lol.

i want to encourage you to go intel because it'll last longer, being on a small budget it's wort doing as the $200ish extra over AMD stuff lasts for 2+ maby 5 years or watever and thats like $40 dollars a year for 5 years of better hyper-threaded performance while saving for the next build. AMD is slow production compared to Intel and not a great improvement in processor architecture for a long time and motherboard chip-set i don't know. I think 1090t will be struggling soon as newer software is develop'd for the best.

Good luck

very good point Jerome very good point

and just made arrangements this eve to upgrade my ex's comp (old as shite dell) so I could sell my CH IV and ripjaws to aid in the transition to Intel as I have a gigabyte mobo and ram I'll use for her upgrade as I dont think this CH IV will fit in her dell case.

pk so back to scoping out intel lol

That Intel bundle has another feature that has not been discussed yet. It has triple channel memory performance as opposed to dual channel memory on the AMD board. Don't get me wrong, I like AMD for their awesome performance for the lower prices you pay. But the Intel setup will be noticeably faster in many ways.

You'll find that the 950 is a monster even without any over clocking.

Socket 1155 'B' series (redesigned) mainboards have recently been announced by several board makers and will be for sale again very soon.

this will all depend on what the washer and dryer set me back lol as I still have bills to pay. I have configured another way but without the ssd and so far I like it just dont know alot about the mobo I'm looking at yet its the MSI X58A-GD45 what I like about it mainly so far is the spacing on the 2 pci-e 16 slots theres 2 pci-e 1x slots between them so the cards (when i get another one) wont be smack dab against each other. The 560ti's run a tad warm on stock fan speed. Which is 33% but can easily ramp em up to 65% still quiet at 70% it starts to be heard.

thats bad of nvidia not giving enough fan speed. their stuff gets hot first then the fans try to cool it failing big time. likewise i have the fans set to 60-80% with high settings. beats nvidia setting for cooling and noise. the thing is they manufacture gaming products and give it a fan setting for web browsing

i'll av a look at the MSI board

Maybe I can add just a bit of anecdotal perspective. I have no brand preference between Intel and AMD.

For two years I had been using AMD. Cheaper with the same performance, I thought. Got framerate issues in Wow with my Phenom II 720 BE, so I upgraded to a 965 BE. My 720 OCed to 3.8GHz max. My 965 wouldn't even go that high on an ASUS M4A89TD Pro, and its performance in games was barely a step above the 720. Yuck. My friend got a 1090T and he didn't fare any better than I did.

Fed up, I bought an i7 950 with a Sabertooth--along with pretty much your same build--and my WoW framerates more than doubled. Some of my other games fared even better than that. (Especially FFXIV, which went from low-res and choppy to perfect immediately.) I was able to take the CPU up to 4.2GHz stable in 10 minutes of messing around.

The real-world performance I gained was huge. And the overclocking was fantastic. Felt like I was taking a two-generation leap in technology going with the i7. As long as you have any of those Phenom II chips you are holding back your GPU, too. Oh, and the Sabertooth rocks!

If you really are concerned about going to a different type of overclocking scheme, just go with Sandy Bridge since it's almost the same as AMD.

Just know that you will never regret going with Intel over AMD at this point.
