Thermaltake

I don't remember where, but I remember hearing/seeing Tom call thermaltake cases thermaltacky. I am personally confused by this, my first 5 build (full disclosure I was between the ages of 11-14 when I built them) where all in thermaltake cases. I used the Xaser 2, Xaser 3, and 2 in the Armor (original) and I thought all of them were fantastic cases and since then have used the armor+ for one of my main builds, again I loved it. I will admit that the last few years they have been kind of shit (looking at the Level 10) but I wouldn't call them Thermaltacky at all. Now I am only bringing this up because for my new LAN/bedroom rig I bought the Level 10 gt, I haven't put it together yet because I am still waiting for some parts but I have looked around the case and actually am presently surprised by the case. No matter that though what do you guys thing of Thermaltake and their cases, minus the atrocity of the Level 10 for $800.... that was a sham for sure.

Personally, i'd be inclined to agree with tom. Their products are aimed at 11-14 year olds that think plastic is cool, and lots of it. The cases they make aren't horrific to work with, there are far worse out there, but it's just down to personal preference and what you as the user look for in your perfect case.

I don't like the over aggressive look the modern 'gamer' cases have taken on, the build quality is generally poor and the styling is horrific in my opinion. But each to their own.

I will admit that I have grown away from their cases for the most part, I am a big fan of the super minimalist cases for my main computers (Current cases is 700D) and I got the Level 10 GT specifically because its a big flashy case and since its for lans thats what you want. But I don't think the older Thermaltake cases where honestly to heavily gamer themed, the original armor and Xaser 2 are both fairly plain cases in comparison to the design of something like the HAF series of cases, but when it comes to build quality they are (or used to be) all very sturdy and well constructed cases. All of this is, of coarse just my personal opinion on the matter, as is Toms opinion. I am just curious to see if my opinion is wrong =) hah.

I've always liked the Thermaltake Mozart TX VE1000SWA. I think each chassis has to be considered on its own merit. Look at NZXT, they had a certain reputation and then they produced the Phantom, which whilst not an earth shattering case is pretty good.

Some people love lights and bling, others love an austere minamilst facade. Each to his own....

Thermaltacky. Tt have never made a good chassis EVER.

I just bought a Thermaltake Element s and am prtty happy with it. Will need to mod in a window and a few more cable managment holes. But for the price it is good. Better than some of Coolermasters case in the same price range and destroys NZXT recent cases i.e Hades, Gamma, Hush and Lexa

Tt has always reminded me of a high school kid who bought a '95 Honda Civic and added horrible looking ground effects and a body kit that doesn't match the color of the rest of the car. In other words...tacky and cheap looking. I've yet to find any Tt product whose competitor doesn't have something better looking/better built for the same price or cheaper.

If you can recommend a case which looks better than the Thermaltake Element S within the same price or cheaper please let me know. I picked it up for £45 on sale

That case actually doesn't look too bad. Not sure how you got it that cheap though. MSRP here is $129 and I've yet to find it in stock at the usual places. I'd pick a CM 690 II over it though, probably even a HAF 912.

That case is definitely minimalist though compared to other Tt cases. I probably wouldn't recognize it was a Tt case on first glance

. For some reason it kind of reminds me of the old Alienware cases.

Found it on sale on www.cclonline.com last month.

Originally looked at the CM690 Advanced but saw this case cheaper. Going to do a build log when i get the tools to mod. Is a good case.

The entire "V" series destryoed Thermaltake as they all look crap.

Looking forward to the build log.

I'd agree with you on the V series.

Seriously, I think Tom has some really personal grudge on thermaltake and is taking it out on its products.

I don't.

They have a product here and there that is decent, but Tt are definitely not known in the industry for quality.
