Thermal Compound in my CPU socket.

I recently bought a Noctua NH-D14, to replace my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7Pro, and i noticed that i put too much thermal compound on.

when i took off the cooler and started cleaning it off, i saw some in between the socket and my CPU. When i took my CPU out, i saw some thermal compound on the bottom right hadn side of the socket. should i try to remove it with a tooth pick or something, Or should i just RMA it?

The socket on the mobo or the CPU?

If it's the CPU just use a tooth pick or a piece of card or something, I have done that my self on a Q6600 and everything has been fine. If it's the mobo I don't know what to tell you there.

Try to get it off very carefully toothpick cotton buds maybe, you cant rma it if you get paste in the board

What compound is it? If its artic silver and there is alot youll need to bin the mobo and get a new one. The silver will short the pins and could kill your CPU.

Retailer will not allow return as it is your own fault.

dont use cotton buds mate those pins are delicate, you may bend the pins

as cooton buds will pluck the pins, ive had this problem n i just used a bit of paper anything thats not going to pluck or pull those pins should be ok another good one is a new soft toothbrush ive seen no adverse effects on my board a little tip when you apply your thermal compound just put a pea sized blob in the middle of the cpu n let your cpu cooler do the spreading as you tighten it

With a Noctua heatsink, and the Noctua Thermal compound, probably a 1/4 of a pea.

In regards with cleaning it, is it one of those pastes that turn rock hard? Or does it remain liquidy?

Personally I would try my best to clean it with solvents.
