There is Probably No God

Just saw it on the news.. an Atheist group has put an advert up displaying "There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life" on Londons buses.

That is the message I would like to see more... less religion forced apone us and more Scientific views. What do you think? :)

I believe in free will.

I don't think that religions should be forced upon people, I think that each child should get the chance to choose what religion he/she takes part in at a suitable age. Hopefully, it should dumb down the controversy between science and religion.

I'm a Catholic myself, and I choose to believe in things as I see fit. I believe there is a God, although I'm an avid science fanatic and I often see things which contradict religion. I do also think that some of the Bible is a bit too abnormal to believe, but as I have come to learn, there are explanations for even the most silly things.

Well, thats my opinion.

I agree.

As an Atheist myself, my argument against Religion is simple; It is nothing but one of many creations of the human race.

The only reason we created it in the form of Sun worship and evolved it over time to what it is today was to satisfy our lack of understanding.

I won't go into dept on my views as this is not an Atheist forum.

On this particular subject I always quote Albert Einstein:

"If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed."

I am christian, yet like my science.

i have a sci-christian view ^^ lol

I dont think what the aethiasts did was right...the term aethiasm is a group alongside other religious groups in my view (like in a drop down form). So therefore, by doing that they were also "forcing" their idea on the subject on others.

meh - let people choose

This is the thing.. the ad was in response to a Christian ad. ;)

I detest the heads of religions.

Religion does make me giggle tho, people tend to pick and chose what parts of it to follow, and change the sect`s belief dependent on the era.

The only true religion is Cash.

I always did find it funny that one of my science teachers taught us the way that the universe was created from the big bang etc but he was a major religious nut who believed the Bible version of creation.

The Bible in my opinion should be viewed like Aesop's fables. There is some good MEANING to what is said but no truth.

I am a man of Science and always will be. Much to the annoyance of said teacher, or was that my insistence of wearing my Antichrist superstar shirt to his lessons?

:D

Why don't we believe any of the Egyptian gods anymore? We now think they are a joke/impossible.

LOL, what isn't impossible about todays "god".

Don't get me wrong... the Bible is a well written fairy tale and has some good morales. But that is pretty much all it is. Anyone hear about the parts left out by the Church? Part which proved certain marriages/he isn't gods son.

The Bible was painstakenly pieced together by King James to include only what was required by the regime at the time.

A good couple of hundred years of killing people who disagreed with it pretty much hammered it home.

It`s still followed and still changed or re-interpreted to suit the heads of the religion at the time. Oh and to be "pc".

Egyptian gods are the best tbh. I liked the original Stargate movie at the time, and the many mummy films are classics.

We`ll all rot in hell u understand - but I have a get-out clause, I`ve spoked to the religious departments here at work after doing some IT work for them, and as they were so grateful, I said to them to pray for me as some kind of lost soul. hehe.

Bases covered :p

The bible is a well written fairy tale...rofl you're gonna upset some peeps with that one. I'd be interested in seeing the parts that the church allegedly left out, do you have a link by chance?

Haven't looked on the net for it... just read about it/watched documentaries/talked to old people. Rast pretty much it the nail on the head.

I shall have a look around the net mind you - see what I can find, there must be something. :)

My dad is a fully ordained minister and even says that the church gives you book in "black" print, not the book in "red" print. In other words, they are giving you what they want you to hear. He also says the bible is BS. :worship:

amen to that hehehehe :)

the big book was compiled from scripts written roughly 300 years after the whole nailing on the cross incident.

many of the account clash.

when it was translated to latin much was altered and mis translated.

then as stated above good old James thought he knew best and did a bit of cut and paste.

all in all they should issue bibles to folk going on expeditions to the corners of the earth. there are so many pages in there you will never run out of tinder for fire lighting or toilet paper.

**runs and hides from the wrath of god**

The reason why old gods, pre christian are not worshipped anymore is that Jesus, Joseph, Mary and the holy ghost went round exterminating them with help from Ray, Winston, Egon and peter (AKA the ghostbusters) however us in the know know that Jesus was a time traveller and was helped out by Doc Brown and Marty McFly. And that actually his name is Eric, originally from newcastle, and he was white, not middle eastern as all the pictures these days depict.......

and if you believe that then maybe there is some truth in the bible :P

I totally agree with this one, in my opinion I think religion is to blame for alot of wars and hatred.

Spot on.

Religion stems from mans understanding of mortality, and in trying to deal with it - we look for more - something else beyond death. That, and mans wish to dominate everything or everyone else. Strange how all religions have penalties or membership benefits. Believe in me or spend etenity in hell! Believe in me and get virgins to play with! Believe in me and you'll be reborn!

They're all saying 'believe in me and your death aint gonna be so bad pal!'.

I have god on my side - do as I say!! And when man realised they could use religion as control...

There is a nice line from a film called Dogma which springs to mind

"..better to have an idea than a belief.."

Sums up religion for me, an unneeded arcane set of concepts and beliefs, unwavering in their inability to change and adapt to modern scientific times, which stemmed from when man understood little about the nature of the universe.

Though hey, if someone else believes in a religion - that's ok with me. Though I'm not so sure if atheism is a concept the devout can tolerate. And that worries me.
