The Vulkan API has been brought to macOS and iOS, without Apple's involvement

A lot of us gamers would be VERY interested in non-Microsoft options. :) Ask any serious nerd if they would ditch Windows 10 in favor of Linux. The answer would likely be HELL YES. For a lot of us, gaming is the *only* reason we use Windows.

Linux yes. It is the best OS full stop. But Apple... I don't think anyone would change Windows for Mac.

True, but give Mac owners some gaming capability might not be a bad thing. I sure wouldn't go Mac just to get away from MS. That's just swapping one demon for another. :)

There is no reason why there shouldn't be more games on OSX already. It has OpenGL.

It's down to game devs not bothering with it tbh. Which is a shame, because I would much rather be using OSX than Windows.

I didn't say it doesn't work. I said it's old and slow. It's very outdated and newer APIs are much much more efficient.

You can call it a fact. It's still your opinion. Disagree all you want. It's still an opinion.

Based on raw numbers, more developers still use Wintel machines. A significant reason for many developers using Macs is because it is not Windows, and Linux is not a certified UNIX environment. Windows is in some ways "made for" developers. However, it is a very high maintenance environment. "DLL Hell" is bad enough for a user, it is a major impediment to a developer, and something to be avoided in a dev workflow.

It comes down to money, as always. If there was a commercially oriented Linux-based OS that provided the UNIX environment and tools, it would be a different story. Apple limits hardware compatibility, because that keeps their tech debt lower, and has the benefit of locking in users long-term. I have seen coders and Devs who suddenly realized that they could get away with using linux drop Mac OS like a bad habit, and gleefully.

I get the same sort of performance using OGL than anything else. OGL is very good, however it's taken quite a slating over the years. It all depends how you look at it, but I feel a lot of it has been harsh and probably from M$ as they want you on Windows.

Also, going back to the OP, it seems Apple couldn't give a toss either way. Which says a lot about them, IE "We couldn't care how happy we make our users so long as we have our users".

I am not saying OGL is "as good as" or "better than" other APIs I am just saying it's a decent API and at the end of the day if you are using OSX then surely something is better than nothing, right? IE I would rather be playing L4d2 etc in OGL than not being able to play it at all.

The moment, if it ever comes (because M$ will talk poo 'til the cows come home to keep you on Windows (IE look how incredibly amazing yet crap DX12 is !) )I will be off of Windows in a heart beat. However, I can not see it happening. Like, not every game coming out on all OSes.

If OSX was "better" it'd be main stream... not fashion.

Of course it is better. It is running Unix ! ffs, even a paper bag is better than Windows. It's been the most unreliable OS ever. OSX will never be mainstream because 1. It only works natively on Apple stuff which is very expensive and 2. It is very, very difficult to get it working on PC hardware unless you totally buy the exact hardware shown in the guides and tutorials. And even then it is not easy. You need to know what kernels are, how to work with OSX and decent experience of the inner workings of OSX. IE - you need to be pretty adept with software at all levels. It's not something for noobies to play around with.

Linux is even harder. You need to know how to operate an OS without a GUI and how to use the terminal and so on. Again, pretty hardcore stuff, meaning it will never EVER become mainstream.
