Hah.
So some of you will remember the Geforce 8800 Ultra I got with the green problem on one VGA header? DVI was fine of course, but one of the green lines on the VGA out was buggered meaning you got purple.
Any way, a week or so after buying it it failed. Turns out it had been baked in the oven and not put back together very well.
I baked it shortly after that using my methods and it was all running well. Well, it came out of my PC when I got the 470 and I stuck it on the shelf. A few weeks ago I decided to replace the horrible silver screws into the HS with black ones and had a bit of an accident. I figured if I cranked on them hard they would self tap into the heatsink. What I didn't realise was they weren't, barely fitted through the fibreglass PCB and when I looked down to my horror the actual PCB had a bulge in it about the size of half a golf ball. Determined to get the screw in I gave it one last wrench and the mount snapped from the heatsink. I realised it was game over for the card (no big loss) so I set about putting the silver screws back in (all minus one) and put it back on the shelf.
Today I cleaned up the silver Alienware ready to be sold and decided to stick the Ultra in. To my amazement it actually worked.
So I decided to have some fun with it and for the last couple of hours I have been beating the s**t out of it. But the ba***rd won't die !
I ran furmark for almost an hour, nothing.. Then I ran heaven and Vantage.. Still came out fighting. At least I know my baking method kicks ass
