Intel has announced their Xeon E7 v3 Series of Processors with up to 18 cores and the ability to be used in configuration of up to 32 sockets. I guess there is no kill quite like overkill!

The processors support configurations up to 32 sockets with support for the industry's largest memory capacity per socket (8-socket systems are capable of supporting up to 12 terabytes of DDR3 or DDR4 memory technology.

Jesus take the wheel! Does that mean that these puppies can run in systems with 576 cores (18 cores x 32 sockets) and 1152 threads with up to 48 terabytes of DDR4 memory? Imagine the Super Pi and Cinebench scores on that if it were to run on an OS that supports this software.

Oh, just noticed this, might be worth to add it to the article: sites are already updating their websites. For example this Supermicro one mentions that it supports the new CPUs.
 
I read about these yesterday.. ya it's fucking fast lol

Now hopefully we get those same speed increases on the desktop side! That'd be nice for a change
