The GTX Titan X is now available to purchase

Yeah not down playing the performance here. 30% stock for stock and 37% in DX12 on air. Love the price too as it goes but only because it's a slap in the face :D

I have the money ready if I REALLY wanted the new Titan XP but it's just so much for something that will be outclassed in 6 months by something cheaper and faster, I know that's the way with all tech but the Titan class takes the biscuit when it comes to pricing ^_^

Exactly. It's not just about initial outlay, but depreciation. Being able to buy GTX 970 performance at half the price in two years is one thing, it's only a loss of £150, easy to justify for two years increased performance. Knowing that in two years I'd be able to match TITAN XP performance for ~£600 is another. I'd lose £600. That's just insane.

In many ways I'm torn. I want 4K (mainly because that's the only resolution at the size of screen I want) but I just can't justify the price. I'm pretty much squarely in the bracket of consumers that spend £200-300 on a card because that's all I can vaguely justify to my wife. I could spend £1200 on a TITAN XP but I wouldn't be able to enjoy it when I'm dead.
 
If you want 4k it's cheap. It's probably the cheapest solution out there for 4k right now.

Crossfire and SLi are in limbo atm so they're both useless, and one 1080 is not enough.

I threw £1400 at 4k (two Titan Black) and it wasn't enough. It was OK until you ran across a game like Wolfenstein that did not use SLi, then you were buggered.

The Titan XP is the only card that could run 4k at acceptable frame rates. IE 35-40 FPS min.

The 1080ti will be the same card pretty much so the cost for production will be the same. I have a sneaky feeling that this Titan could be the longest on sale. AMD have made no comment at all about Vega only that it would be a long time yet. Maybe next year to coincide with Zen.

So that means Nvidia have absolutely no reason to make a 1080ti now. Why would they? every one just bought 1080s.

And those are the logical cards to sell right now. You've got a mid ranger on a tiny die that's cheap to make (but you can charge £700 for it) and a biggish die that they can charge £1200 for and use up all of their failed Quadros etc.

You won't see the 1080ti until either AMD launch Vega, or, as usual Nvidia will have their spies in there and it will launch just before Vega. And the price will all come down to the rumored or confirmed price of Vega.

If Nvidia do release it now? they will want a king's ransom for it. £900 at least.

Trust me, you don't want the 1080ti to launch now.
 
I personally can't see how AMD will come close to Titan X(P) except in games that specifically favour AMD cards like Hitman. AMD would have to double the Fury performance to reach Titan X(P) in anything other than very specific titles. The Fury X was nowhere near 290 Crossfire performance so I have doubts that Vega 10/11 will be double Fury.
 
Vega is an unknown quantity atm. Nobody has any info on it whatsoever, so performance can not even be guessed. Fury however was based on their existing technology, old technology. The best part of Fury was the HBM and there wasn't enough.

Vega will be a completely different animal dude, so writing it off now is crazy. BTW those games you mention do not favour AMD. They favour DX12 and Async, something AMD designed their architecture for unlike Nvidia. So you can fully expect any titles that support Async and or DX12 and Vulkan to absolutely fly on Vega, given they are using GCN (I think !).
 
That's true. I guess my disappointment with Fiji has left a bitter taste in my mouth. And the higher power consumption and temperatures than expected of Polaris makes me think we're going to see another Fiji that only excels in DX12 games, with poor, poor value for money, poor overclocking, and poor relative DX11 performance.

And when I say, "favour AMD", I mean favour the architectures AMD chose to focus on with their GPU's, Async and DX12 being examples.

Up until now those temps and power have been wasted but when Async works the AMD cores are far more advanced and have far more going on than Nvidia cores do.

AMD have been making Fermi, basically. With all of the drawbacks of Fermi (high heat high power use high temps) yet none of it has been doing anything. Until now of course.

Vega will be an absolute monster of a card I have no doubt. In DX12 and Vulkan and anything else that isn't CPU bound and makes use of GCN I have absolutely no doubt at all that it will bury the Titan X.

I'm beginning to wonder if Nvidia know this and this is why they are rushing through Pascal so they can move onto Volta? Volta apparently will be their first product designed solely with Async in mind where as up until now they've just been ignoring it. And what they've done has absolutely been the right thing to do but I just wonder if AMD's long game will pay off?

That would make sense with the theory that Pascal was never an intended release and was simply a response to the success of Maxwell with a smaller die. NVidia saw a chance to capitalise on a huge vacancy in the market and decided to squeeze Pascal inbetween Maxwell and Volta. Volta is rumoured to be out in 2017 so it makes sense.

If Vega does indeed bury Titan X in next generation titles, no matter what price they charge, as long as it's less than $800, people will go nuts for that. I personally have no need for that kind of power, but if the price is right then I might just splurge. Maybe they'll find a way to get that kind of performance at around €750, in which case it might be worth saving for.

I don't have Windows 10 or any DX12/Vulkan games to test so do you have any links to where we see the Fiji/Polaris chips showing lower temperatures/power draw playing DX12/Vulkan titles?

I'll hold out for the inevitable 1080 Ti that will be just as fast with a bit less memory and much better power delivery and cooling while costing much less.
