The EU may soon introduce a "Tech Tax" bill

They should tax phones, IMO. Too many people just tossing them in the bin and buying new ones. Bit unfair to blanket everything but hey, that's the EU.

Well... this isn't about tech waste, it is about avoiding tax dodging.

The tax isn't on the top of product pricing, but on the company's revenue in each country they operate in.

IE, Apple France won't be able to funnel all of their profits into Ireland and avoid a lot of tax. They will be forced to pay a tax on a small amount of their revenue to France before they get to dodge tax on their profits.

Long story short, more tax will get paid to where it should get paid.

Won't be a concern of yours soon :P well... 12months time at least.

No, thank god. Sick of being barked at by Germany.

Mark - the big question now is, are they going to pass it onto consumers?

Not that I care. TBH this whole minergate/RAMgate/SSDgate thing has done me a favour really. I've spent a lot less on tech crap since it happened and won't spend any more unless it is critical until it all normalises, if it ever does.

Err no...long story short, companies will move out of EU altogether to somewhere they pay less tax...

The EUSSR will learn the hard way

Possibly. Thing is, we all know what is going to happen, right? they will just up their prices. Greed knows no boundaries. Absolutely no chance of them taking it out of their pockets, so it will come from us as usual :(

As someone from Germany with many friends in Germany I can say even native Germans are sick of being barked at by Germany.

I wouldn't even mind if they were good leadership material but jees, WW2 and all that.

Just sick of them telling us to prop up other countries in the EU, and constantly telling us what to do all of the time.

Talking of the EU and Brexit.. The other night when my heating went out they (the emergency gas people) sent me downstairs to check my meter. I noticed that the flat below me was completely empty. Not sure when the Polish people down there moved out (there were at least two families living in it (2 bed) but yeah, gone. Maybe they have finally sussed out the UK is not the paradise they thought it was going to be?

You think companies will just leave a market like EU untapped?

Sure, if their business model isn't sustainable without dodging taxes they have to adjust. If it isn't possible, well, good riddance.

I won't draw it out but Germany can't even lead itself, The leaders in their ivory towers are too busy virtue signalling to actually care about their native citizens.

Their attitude is very much like an ex smoker.. You go completely in the other direction. They did some pretty crappy (biggest understatement ever) things to people during WW2 so now they want to basically give everything away. Not a very good idea, tbh.

It has good sentiment, but they generally need to accept that some nations are just poorer than others due to geographical location or just crappy leadership. Throwing money at them does not help, because they then take the pee.

They're just far too bossy, much like German people IRL.

I can wholeheartedly agree with that, Being brought up very chilled and being half irish with my dad being super laid back the whole bossy thing completely shot over me so it was a bit of a shock moving back to Germany where everyone is super punctual and very serious, Not my type of atmosphere at all.

Having lived in Germany for 10 years I loved it back then in the 90s and whilst I found the natives in general had a kind of arrogance, also found they were nice peeps

For sure...just another tax on the proles to them...
