The End of XP gets ever closer

XP will live on as long as 98se even if they stop selling it. Internet goes a long ways ya know. I will not go back to Vista though. Ill wait for Vienna.

Ditto, or wait until the fix Vista. XP is a legend when it comes to OSs. And will live on for a long time.

Vista will on the other hand come and go. Nothing special at all.

lol I love the way people are raving now about XP, people used to rave about how cr@p it was

Yep I used to love ME over XP until MS made XP stable. The same will happen to Vista.

hehe I`ve not personally raved about how crap XP is/was, I`ve raved about how much a waste of every1`s time ME was and how much Vista is, and have always raved about how poor "windows" is. But that`s from versions 0 to 6.x.

If I wrote the OS, inhouse only, for a company, I would have been sacked and/or have to carry 50million phones around with me to sort out issues.

Windows 7 in 2009, get ur cheque-books out

some of the comments do make you laugh. It's usually people who dont know how to look after an os, how to resolve issue's they may be having that moan.

It was more than likely those same people moaning about xp and saying they would never use it. Also i dont get the "it was rushed" thing, it had the same development time line as xp.

Guessing its just MS bashers.

Exactly. Can anyone back up these 'vista sucks' with some actual solid reasons that don't come down to user error / user laziness / user incompetence? Pretty sure i've seen everyone bigging up XP refer to it at winblows XP and similar at some point in the past.

There is nothing wrong with vista once you tell it to mind its own business imo

See I thought I was the only one who remembers when XP first came out and everyone was crying... Oooo how bad and buggy it was and It'll never live up to 98.. I mean come on!

I think XP as release was worse than Vista was pre SP1..

That's just me though and I don't wanna start another debate :)

I totally disagree.. XP when it came out for me was a god send. I used to run 2000 and loved it.

When i heard XP was on the way I was excited.

I got it and had no problems what so ever, was surprisingly stable and compatible for me. And the RAM usage compared to 98 was awesome considering how clever the OS was.

The first Windows that was able to bring itself out of a crash. Compared to the good old restart on 98.

Now Vista comes along with nothing new other than the most useless tools. And happens to take up 1Gb of ram.

You may think I know nothing about Vista.. but i have spent countless hours trying to get it to perform the same as XP.

Believe me I want Vista for it's Direct X 10. But I cannot stand the response time it has. Been playing with it on a friends PC too and the amount of errors/uncompatable programs I have encountered.

Each to their own I guess..

Also you cant use the amount of time you spend on a project to measure your ability to succeed with the tech.

You see, this is a prime example.

"Been playing with it on a friends PC too and the amount of errors/uncompatable programs I have encountered."

Why is it vista's fault for incompatible programs? Surely this is down to the individual companies that developed the software.

Microsoft have a job to keep there OS compatible with the world. The reason why is because it is the worlds OS.

If the OS isn't backwards compatible companies are not going to upgrade and neither will I. Pretty obvious.

In many ways I agree, but I'd also be in full support (and maybe admiration?) of Microsoft if they just turned around one day and said "F**k backward compatibility, it's been hindering our OS development for years. Let's start with something totally new.". And then off they go, get rid of all the legacy crap in Windows, slap in a brand new filesystem, ditch the registry...etc etc.

At the end of it all we'd probably have a bloody amazing OS that would knock the crap out of Apple, Linux...etc, but just wouldn't have any programs to work on it.

lmao good video ionicle :p

I find myself going to vista...back to xp...back to vista. I mean vista is good in many ways in brand new software/games with minimal slowdown. But the good stuff such as NFSMW or any program a year old for example does sometimes experience problems.

I think it would be acceptable to say FO to any software pre XP and if necessary no to anything but new stuff - then allow people to use emus if needed.

Agreed - as long as it takes "restarting" out also.

Although I would also add that at the end of the day, m$ don`t give a stuff about compatability or anything else, unless it effects the influx of money.

I agree with Jim on the fresh start. If they did that I would probably go for it. And btw, who's not sick and tired of "The system requiers a restart in order for your changes to take effect". If MS for once would think outside the box, and maybe take a peek at Linux and OSX for some new ideas, I think they actually could make a decent new OS without the endless BSOD's and fatal errors.

Personally i like vista and i am glad i made the switch.. I dont know why everyone is complaining about compatibilty errors? I have had none tbh.. a few at the start now everything works fine.

It looks nice, for me it runs faster than xp, it has loads of features i like and DX-10..

I actually installed the 60 day trial of Windows 2008 Server and followed a few guides on how to desktopify it. Even tho it's not really much different to Vista, it is a lot more nippy out of the box.

vista is by far the worst operating system i have ever used

it got to the point, after a week, where i would turn the computer on, it would boot up, load up the desktop, stay on for 3 minutes, then reboot

and it would keep doing this over and over

and on four different pc's of four different spec's, with four different copy's of vista, ...

pathetic operating system tbh
