I think he was scared of loosing to a girl to be honest
I don't think he expected to end up against Miss Violence and he was more worried about his pride and his mates taking the mickey out of him than anything else. No one in their right mind would give up the chance on winning $25,000 just because he can't use his analog extension thing or whatever it was, especially him being a pro gamer and all.
