The Boss's Rig

Hi

The CEO of our company asked me to get her a computer for her second home in Wyoming. She said I want fast / best. As I will be 2000k miles away in San Diego, California; I had to build the best I could and keep it somewhat stock. Just put the system together and am going to test and ship to her.

Case - Corsair Obsidian 450D
PS - Corsair AX1200i
Motherboard - Asus Maximus VII Hero
CPU - Intel i7 4790K - at Stock for now
Memory - Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz ( 4 x 4GB )
GPU - Asus AMD R295x2
SDD - 2 x Samsung 840 EVO 500GB
CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i

As you can see cables are stock. The AMD GPU fits really well in this case in the position shown. I left the original case fans on the case and reversed the radiator fan from its default position so that it is sucking air in vs blowing out. Don't know if I am getting any added benefit from the case 140mm fan; but did not want to leave a hole in the front of the case or have a 120 and 140 showing through the front grill. There is going to be 2 x 27 inch 1440p monitors for this system at the end, but shipping them right to her house.

From first impressions, I love it and wish I could keep it and really make it mine with custom touches

Looks clean :)

Mind if I ask what kind of work you do or why she needs such a high-end machine?

I do databases and programming for an investment management firm. As to why she needs a high end rig; she does not other than she likes to play with photos a bit. Its just that she has lots of money and does not care what was spent as long as its great. So I got what I would want if had to go stock. If it was my system, I would go for complete loop and custom cabling, but can't keep it :(

Haha fair enough. CEOs eh?

At least playing with high-end hardware for a bit must be fun! Kind of a shame to know most of it is going to waste though :p

 HAHA. Damn rich people giving companies reason to have such high pricing ;). I surprised you didn't go with a TITAN Z ;).

Tbf, if I had to do a build for her, the best GPU I'd have put in there would be a GTX 750 Ti, if I'd add one at all

Oh, just noticed that this is in Build Logs but it's a finished rig. Moved to Rig Gallery.

I wonder if she will use at least 10% of the gpu power...

what a waste. what a shame you can't keep it :)

I'd have built 2, sent her something suitable, kept a gaming rig and be done with it.

I hope that screen isn't the one she's using it with.

People with money like that piss me right off, what a f**king waste.

The screen is just an extra 1280x1024 screen at the corner of our trading desk. Getting 2 x ASUS 27 inch 1440p monitors shipped right to her house.

Thanks for looking, and it is a massive waste. And yes, they have more money than sense. Only positive is that I get to try the hardware I can't afford - mainly the GPU

Nice, not what I would have done for a clueless CEO but hey ho, I do like the 450D though :) I love mine, it's such a breeze to work with.

Nice build. Getting to play with expensive toys can be fun, but always hurts to return them.

I also admire your honesty at not ordering the odd bit of tech to squirrel away for yourself... you didn't, right?

I did not but was sorely tempted to switch out the GPU with my new Asus GTX 760 Striker. Love the look and level of performance of the Striker, as I could not spend much more for a GPU right now. Honestly she would have never known the difference if I had swapped it out for the Asus R9 295x2 but I would have never felt good about having it in my rig.

Maybe I can afford one if we get good year end bonus.
