I recently bought a Fractal DD R4 case to replace a crappy cheapy case that I had for years. As part of the upgrade, I pondered over what type of cooling to put into my updated build. Considered a closed loop which I believe would fit just dandy into the top of the Fractal case. I gave the H110 a miss and instead opted for air-cooling.
FIRSTLY - bought fractal R2 silent 140MM fans for every possible slot - except the bottom slot where I stuck Corsair AF120MM fan .
The great thing about the Fractal case is the built in fan controller. I hooked up the two front fans and the rear exhaust fans to that and it ticks over on 7v setting.
To get maximum air through the case have taken out both of the HDD cages and modded my WD 1TB black drive to the bottom of my case where the HDD cages were and my 180GB SSD just hangs supported by the sata cable it is connected to. But now I have nothing blocking the airflow.
CPU is cooled by the BeQuiet DR2 using the supplied fan in pull. Had to do this as I have a Corsair HypeX RAM cooler and considering I am running 32GB of 2400MHZ memory - I wanna keep that, plus it has twinkly blue LED's
All the fans are hooked up to the MB (except the ones I mentioned that are on the controller) and run at a whisper quiet pace of around 300rpm's.
My CPU is only clocked at a modest 4.2GHZ and under load never goes over 76 deg.
Idle temps are around 26-29 degs - MB rarely goes above 26 degs.
Love the Fractal case with all it's consideration over supplying intake filters and have stuck a magnetic filter on the side fan-In. Great case to air cool and easy to mod about with, even for a newb like me...
