Test Benches as everyday case

Hi guys, has anyone ever used a test-bench as an everyday case? I'm looking at a new PC project around Christmas, and I really like the idea of having an open air test bench. I am also looking at water-cooling, so I want something that supports 360mm radiators. I'm pretty sure Dimastech cases support watercooling? So has anyone ever W/C'ed one or uses one? Thanks a lot peeps!

That's exactly what I do

I have a Dimastech easy v2.5 with the xs-ps rs360 watercooling. It's great as long as you don't drop anything on it.

If you've got any specific questions I'd be happy to answer them.

Very cool I like the look of that. Does it not get really dusty?

Cheers, it's pretty - in a manly functional way... And not so dusty as I thought it might to be honest. Build up seems no worse than my previous case. I used to put a plastic cover over it at night (and still do if im going away for a few days) but there's no noticable build up to be honest.

KiiYzOo has a smaller test bench flanked with two 360 rads.

That looks cool.

Nice one dude, I'm seriously considering it. Dust build aint a problem, as I tend to clean my room at least once a week, I hate dust and crap lying around. Does the 360 rad fit in with no drama?

Added some more phots to the slideshow taken in the cold light of day. Captions should hopefully explain things.

And this hasn't been dusted in 2 weeks for anyone who's looking

Not that I do dust it...I occassionally reseat and blow past the components...

Nice one mate, it isnt the neatest of builds is it? lol Is there no way of mounting the rad internally?

Haha, maybe I should drape some fairy lights over it

You could easily mount it inside - it's pretty easy to move stuff around in there, To make space inside I'd move the PSU further over away from the wc mounting, put the hdd stack where the PSU is and the optical stack where the hdd stack currently is.

You've then got a couple of options probably the most sensible of which would be to mount the radiator onto the inside with the fans mounted onto the inside of the rad blowing out. That would mean that the radiator would be *slightly* less efficient because it would be radiating from the inside through the case structure and the air inside will be *slightly* hotter than the ambient but probs not by much.

Alternatively you could mount it flat against the outside with the tubes facing outwards before curling back in and have the fans where I have them.

The case is designed to mount it along that side only but there's nothing to stop you from drilling your own holes and doing what you want with the case - it is 1.5mm sheet metal

Given me a lot to think about, thanks mate.

Glad I could help. At the end of the day I think we're pushing the boundaries into custom/modding here. Test benches are a half-way house between that and pc cases imo. It is a good case and it fits nearly everything, but we don't get to drill the original holes and design the original shape based on what rig we've got so it can't be perfect.

Having owned it and read what others have have written I can be pretty confident in saying that any decent bench gives you the best flexibilty you'll get without actually building your own case. Which is probably what I'll do next

I'm not afraid of drilling, cutting and tapping anything to be fair, I'm a engineering technician so thats not a bother. I think I may go for the v2.5 and mod it to mount the rad inside.

Good shout! Post some pics when you've done, would be good to see what you came up with.
