Temp question

I'm considering changing my GTX460 SLI for say a 500 series SLI configuration, although seeing some of the benchmarks I am beginning to think that this will not see a big improvement. I have no problems playing any of the games I like ArmA, MW3 BF3 COD etc, etc.....

Okay to the question my mobo is an ASUS X58 (see sig) so there is not a lot of space between top and bottom card, the 460's have about 17c difference due to poor cooling the MSI cyclone throw the heat out every where rather than guiding it to the rear.

Are the 500's cooler? and it particular say 580's? would a sigle 590 be better than SLI?

The 500 series is inherently cooler, though that doesn't mean they don't get hot. If you can afford it, go for two 580's, though honestly you should invest some money on a new case. Some 580's dump more heat into the case than others so read reviews and see how the cooler is designed.

However, if you don't want to spend money on a new case, i believe a 590 would be your best choice. Plus its cheaper than two 580's.

If i was in your shoes, i would wait for kepler, the next gen nvidia gpu's. Unless that is you can get a good price on the 500 series.

Thanks for that and yes got money burning a hole in the pocket but will wait for new GPU's next year, not really grabbed by SBE so will hang onto X58 and nothing wrong with the CS sniper she has great through ventilation, so she will stay with me for awhile don't want to go for full tower.
