Tec Cooling?

As I am unable to afford a MachIIGT any time soon, I was looking into the posibility of tec cooling, comprising of:

226w Peltier

Maze4-1 A64

Meanwell s320 PSU

With my CPU maxxed @ 3.0Ghz on water i'm wondering if maybe 3.2-3.3 is possible with a tec. This way I don't need a new case (as I really like my stacker)

Anyone got any comments or thoughts about this idea? All welcome :)

Cheers.

If you can do 3GHz on water, a TEC will help increase that nicely :)

There is always the option of going with a 437W TEC :D

I had a look but the highest I can find in UK is a 226W :( and i really need the PSU to fit in my 5.25 bays as I am already struggling with a PCP&C850 and a triple rad w/c system lol. Although if you have any Llinks to a 437W in uk please post (or pm ;) ) as i would luuuurv one :D

The 437 is hard to find, and running at 12V you would be much better off with a 320W unit. I will PM you a good source :)

On another happy note my peltier rig is now functioning :D

226 should be good enough TBH on an opty - heat output around same as FX57 so I would have thought 226w is good enough.

My Mach is tuned to 210w and that's good enough to realise max performance.

I will say though - given that you do not know if the opty you have suffers the cold bug or not - using pelts is a cost effective way to find out.

Or go for a water chiller?

I must admit I have looked at chillers. I think though, I can get all of a pelt setup inside my case, where as a chiller gets a bit more 'messy' lol.

And if my opty don't have the cold bug and it looks like its not at it's ceiling then I will most deffo be gettin a re-gassed MachIIGT next year.

Thanx guys!

pelt wont go cold enough to experience serious cold bug, but yeh try it out, thats what im doing for my future media rig.

Have you ever used the meanwell they are supposed to kick out some serious heat.

Me personally wouldn't touch a pelt as they do have a habbit of blowing up and taking whatever they are attached to with them!

Buy a mach if i was you safer and will last longer and far easier to set up.

But not very mobile, also your loop needs to bs table i.e. if your pump fails or you getta leak and no cooling on y r tec by by chip :O

Have to admit I'm not a huge fan of pelts, had a 172w on my gpu once - I was always wary of what Phil said about your pump dying, would be very unfortunate though.

Also the meanwell psu to get quite hot so be careful where abouts you put it in your case.

Yeah makesure you keep the meanwell well ventilated as they kick out serious heat.

Its a good idea going for a tec and then if you do get a prommie again you can reuses the tec psu and whack a tec on your gpu :D

That would be nice, but CPU TECs are 50mmx50mm; GPU TECs are 40mmx40mm :(

A dedicated PCP&C 510 seems to handle to 226W okay. :)

A 510 would be nice but even my stacker would struggle with a PCP&C850, 510 & 120.3 rad lol. I was thinking of fabricating a self-contained area for the meanwell with a cooling duct and fan out of the top of my case. So hopefully there will be minimal heat transfer into my case.

Im looking at the DD Maze4-1, however it says suitable upto 250w. Would it be ok to put a 320w on this block?

GoLLuM - PM sent RE Meanwell 320.

Yes, if you have a sufficient cooling system.

I have a number of GPU peltier blocks in the classifieds, and loads of bits ;)

All the watts figures are very odd anyeway - if you have a look on XS you will see what they will truly run... Although I don't think anyone there really knows what is going on due to the number of variables in a PSU and system. 8)
