Team Xtreme DDR2

Well....guarantees of clockspeeds are always nice, and the coolers are pretty funky :)

I think they have to be attached by the user though, but dont quote me on that...

I *think* the ICs on those are GKX (but dont quote me on that either!!)

Ok thank`s Kenny for the feedback, can you recomend me the ram to get as it will be going with a QX9650 :D

You'll want the fastest RAM possible, as the FSB limits dont seem to be better with the 45nm chips over current Quads.

When are you expecting the chip? If its not till January, my advice would be to wait as long as possible to buy RAM and see what DDR3 prices are like. At the moment, decent DDR3 is around £200-£250 for 2GB depending on where ya go ;)

I reckon we've seen all we're gonna see from DDR2, and most enthusiast kits will do 600MHz+ at 5-5-5 (or 4-4-4 with more juice)

GKX and GMH are along the same lines as BH-5, CH-5, TCCD etc...

GKX does slightly higher MHz, but GMH can hold better timings to higher MHz. Both ICs are made by Micron

I see - so, of these two chips, what would be their respective voltage ceiling?

Back in the day TCCD would run within normal voltage parmaters nicely - BH5 on the other hand would need a DFI mobo or volt mod to the VDIMM so that you get them to perform (and perform they did :)).

Which would require a VDIMM mod on the motherboard to help reach their full potential, given most boards only allow for 2.4v?

2.50V is probs enough for both, but theres a little extra scaling up to 2.7V ishhhh....expect lifetime to be reduced though.

Scaling as in FSB or scaling as in you will find the max FSB at 2.5v and then by upping the voltage it will tighten up?

BTW - K404 = just a mind of information, the font of knowledge - cheers for the info provided thus far.

No no...scaling as in raw RAM MHz, which might help figure out the best options for FSB/RAM ratios.... e.g. stick with 1:1 or is the RAM good enough to allow a 5:6, even if its only for SPi 1M and AM3?

Thanks for the compliment- I normally sum it up as "saddo needing to get out more" :)

I would go for Crucial Ballistix PC8500 as its cheap £65 for 2 gig kits & can go to 1200+ Mhz easy

I have Crucial PC5300 2 kits of 2 gig & both will do 1200+ with only 2.2V 5-5-4 timings

How about this then :D

Not to bad for a £60 set of ram

Did the board require any mods?

No mods except pencil vdroop mod for Vcore!

I'm just playing with my mach (not connected to system yet) as its been crap lately ie. won't hold any load & takes ages to reach minus temps! But today with some fiddling I thinks its working as its been idling at -66 (Measure with temp probe not mach display which shows -70) for the last 2 hours! This was modded by Gray about 18 months ago!

Davey- have you realised you have benched at more than 100% RAM OC? :D

I picked up a set this evening as well :D THATS how envious I am :D
