Something like that and you'll be amazed by the performance it delivers (especially when OCed.)

I was going to say, but the tinterweb is being iffy, I will just get a HD6950 and give the £2000 to my missus ffor our wedding. Then get a full 2600K kit after Aug.

But those 2600k's are fast as hell. If you can fork out the money for the UD7 then by all means, go for it. It's the best looking mobo I've seen so far.

Ok so here is a sitrep for all that are interested. I have ordered a HD6950. To replace the HD4850. It looks like I will be sticking with the Phenom2 x4 940Black Edition setup for the next 6months. I convinced the missus that i could get by without my engagement present till after the wedding.

Selfish reasons mostly.

I want to wait for Sandy Bridge to come down in price.

And, I Don't want to leave my shiny 3D system for all the naughty cousins for 3weeks, while in the Maldives on honeymoon.

Now for the question.

How do I go about overclocking my processor?? (Is it worth doing with a stock fan??)

If I have broken the bond between the heat compound, to clean a mucky CPU heatsink, do I have to replace the compound??

I downloaded Amd Overdrive, I let it Auto Tune. BAM!!!! Blue screen....

I don't think your going to get too far with the stock cooler. And anyone here would advise against overclocking inside windows. You get much more accurate readings inside the Bios. The good news is you have a black edition, so you might get away with adjusting the multiplier a tad bit on stock volts. So the two main things to use for overclocking in your shoes would be the:

Base clock (fsb) and your CPU multiplier they are always labeled different

FSB x Multiplier = your cpu speed

But id recommend a cooler upgrade. Just to take the heat issue off the table.

So the Bios, is that the one you press (Del) on startup to enter?? Because I entered that but couldn't alter anything on that CPU menu. (thanks for putting up with my silly questions)
